A Matter of Wardrobes
July 26th 2008 00:23
When you want to get a job, it's important to dress for it. If you're looking for a job as a department store Santa Claus, for example, you don't show up in a frog-man suit. If you're applying to work as a cook, you don't arrive in the dirtiest clothes you can find. If the place that you want to hire you has a dress code, you might want to honor it or look for another job. It's just common sense, isn't it?
So why are to Muslim women pitching a fit because they can't get a job at a fast food restaurant? The restaurant expects their employees to wear a uniform (which doesn't include the headgear).
Simple solution? Lose the headgear or look for a job someplace else. Unless you're a Muslim, of course. It's not like they came here and started trying to change their new country into the old one... oh, right. That's exactly how it is, folks! When Muslim immigrants don't like the way we do things or our business policies or how we celebrate our own holidays, they go bananas and start demanding changes to suit them.
And what do we do? Cave in. Let them have their way because we don't want anyone to think we're holding 9/11 against all Muslims. They're getting free passes all over the world, for goodness sakes. Somewhere along the line, we need to put a stop to it or just convert to Islam and get it over with.
I'm hoping that McDonalds will stand up to the pressure and hold onto their policy of wearing the uniform. We'll see what happens. Somehow it's really gonna irk me if I have to wait in the drivethrough while McDonalds employees tend to their prayers instead of getting my Big Mac and fries!

Even French movie icon Bridgette Bardot was sued (and lost) for complaining about Muslims trying to take over France!

I agree with you on certain aspects of your article. If I wanted to wear something that wasn't part of the uniform, I would be told to just wear the uniform and the fact that their uniform is a policy renders me incapable of taking legal action against them.
I have nothing against Muslims, but as an atheist I believe that someone cannot dictate society purely from a belief based of faith.
However most of their choice in clothing is actually embedded into their cultures. We need to respect that, don't we? Isn't America 'the land of the free'? How would you feel if due to circumstances beyond your control you ended up in a predominantly Muslim country, and to get certain jobs you needed to wear the Burka (thats what I think you refered to as 'headgear') You would feel entitled to your right to wear what you choose to.
Coming from Australia, we live in a hugely multicultural society, and I think that the Burka is more than just 'headgear' to them, its a fundamental part of their beliefs.
But at the same time, the world is being consumed by political correctness and it ironically is overshadowing EQUALITY. I agree with you on that, but your argument reaks of bias against Muslims. However, I don't know exactly what the Burka means to Muslims as i really don't know any personally, and perhaps if we were to understand that maybe our treatment of this issue would change.
It does seem that people take advantage of the law too often in America, and its not right, and if these people seriously are suing purely of financial interest then that is a different issue and is disgusting.

But the best answer would be do as I say or find another job.

Hi Lester! I've heard of restaurants that do just that. Half the place for Muslims and half for everyone else. If it works for them, that's fine. But I'll bet most of them did so due to political pressure or the fear of lawsuits, not for any other reason. It's disgraceful!
