Very Scary Situation
July 28th 2010 00:42
It has come to my attention recently that a young lady I know is considering marriage. She's 25 years old and has a job. She also has a TV and access to radio and newspapers. Unfortunately, her only interest is in reading romance novels and fussing over her personal grooming.
She is almost completely oblivious to the real world. In fact, she was surprised, last week, to find that we are at war! Not long ago, she seemed to have a boyfriend, but now she's planning to marry a man she hardly knows.
Why, you may ask? Because this really nice Egyptian man wants to be able to stay in the US, because he "likes it here." He needs an American bride to stay and his Egyptian wife doesn't seem to object. Neither do his Egyptian children. They all live here.
O.K., I'm a bit confused, too. His story is that American law doesn't recognize his marriage because it took place in Egypt. Really? Since when? He hasn't mentioned what religion he is and she doesn't care enough to ask. Let's see, what religion approves of multiple wives and is found in Egypt? That's a tough one, isn't it? Something about this situation smells like an angry skunk to me.
Of course, the young lady in question doesn't know about the Times Square bomber. Didn't he marry a dumb American girl? She probably thought he was a really nice guy at one point, too. And what Russian spies? They pretended to "like it here", too. She hasn't heard about the case... too busy fussing with her appearance and reading her silly books.
I don't see how anything about this situation can be good. An illegal alien, an illegal "marriage", the risk of being arrested for fraud... why? He seems to be a well educated man, from all accounts. Why engineer such a thing without a good reason? Maybe he hasn't got his act together enough to commit a terrorist act? Maybe he wants to stay for some other reason, but it must be a biggie for him to be willing to become a criminal and take such a chance. Of course, suicide/homicide bombers aren't very interested in the consequences of their behavior, are they?
I sent her a list of questions to ask him and herself before going ahead with this travesty. Does she really want to prostitute herself for his money? Does she really not care if she's helping a terrorist? Why did he pick her in the first place? Because she's inexperienced and gullible? Why doesn't his wife object? At the end of the email, I had to tell her that if she marries him, she'll regret it for the rest of her life, in jail or out. And that I will NOT be a part of that life from the moment she says "I do".
I've known this girl all her life, and I love her dearly. But I will NOT support a crime and I refuse to protect anyone guilty of treason. Maybe I'm a hard case, and I am. But this country means too much to me to sit idly by while a potential terrorist is aided and abetted by anyone.
I hope and pray that she changes her mind, sees the light and reports him to INS as soon as possible. What would you do?
