I am highly opinionated with a firm grip on the difference between right and wrong. I pay more attention to the candidates and the issues than to precise party lines. My facts are just that... FACTS- and my opinions are MY opinions- Regardless of what the subject, you can always find a good read on my blog, I write about various issues and not everything is focused on the subject of politics. I hope you enjoy!

Venting, Political Style

July 19th 2008 20:07
I just saw a commercial about "venting." It concerned a wife who let her husband go visit a friend who needed to "vent." The venting was about a new type of beer can. Then I got to thinking about "venting" as most people understand it.

It has to be a liberal invention, venting. basically, when one "vents", one simply complains endlessly about whatever is bothering them and then "feels better." How idiotic can you get?

If I have a problem, I want solutions. I want workable ways to either deal with it or solve it. I don't want the opportunity to whine, gripe and complain, while doing nothing to change the situation!

A friend of mine lived with a perpetual mess and "vented" every week to her "shrink" who listened sympathetically while offering no concrete methods of dealing with her troubles. She would come to me, whining and wanting to "vent" and I would tell her if she didn't like things as they were she should do something about it. This went on for several years. She visited her shrink every week (sometimes more than once a week) and vented. She whined, bitched and moaned about her circumstances with her "boyfriend" as he continued to abuse her. All of her friends got sick of hearing her "vent" without ever intending to fix the problem. Most of them stopped speaking to her altogether. I didn't. I kept telling her that she knew how to remedy her situation and that nothing would change until she changed it.

It took some years, but she finally understood (no thanks to her shrink, who kept taking her money and allowing her to vent for no purpose.) The boyfriend finally beat her up once too often and called the police when she dared to fight back. She was left with two options, go to jail as he took everything she owned. Or dump him and have nothing more to do with him, thus keeping her home and belongings. She wisely chose the latter and is doing very well without him. She now has a life that doesn't involve being beaten every week or two. All the years of "venting" kept her a helpless victim and made her life miserable.

I guess, if you're a good liberal, venting is a wonderful thing. It allows you to gripe and complain endlessly without ever having to do anything about it. Yeehawwww...

For a conservative, however, "venting" is a ridiculous waste of time and money. If you have a problem, find a way to solve it. If you're in a hole, put down the shovel! Don't "vent" to some jerk who will take every cent you have just for listening to you. Find a rational way to remove the problem and move forward.

Venting is a satin, bejeweled bandage on a broken leg. It sounds and looks quite pretty, but it doesn't do a thing for you. Even an ugly splint (when applied properly) will get you back on your feet.

Hey S.L. when we have a problem we have two choices, let it get worse or find a solution, I like finding a solution and fixing it before it gets worse.

Me, too, Lester. Complaining never accomplished anything.
