Two Thomas's Agree

Thomas Sowell and Cal Thomas have very similar colums today. They are both quite correct when it comes to our pork-laden economy and all the possibilities contained therein for more abuse of public trust.
When it comes to "infrastructure" and "taxes", I always think of New Orleans and the Minnesota bridge. How many years did the Governors and senators and congressmen of Louisiana and Minnesota spend begging for "infrastructure" money? They got money from the federal government every time. How was it spent? Fancy public bathrooms, bike paths, parks, museums and other non-essential projects to please constituants while neglecting the important life-saving real "infrastructure." When the levees failed, the Democrats who had wasted the funds for repairing them managed to blame Pres. Bush. When the bridge collapsed, who got the blame? Not the people who wasted the bridge repair money on trivialities!
So here we go again, folks. Dollar signs and a string of zeroes being handed over for some nebulous necessities that will solve nothing. Creating more dependence on government give-aways and less on self discipline will have the same results it always has and leave us with new disasters and a deeper financial hole. Will Washington ever learn to put the shovel down? Probably not...
