Harry Reid, Make up your So-called Mind!
January 6th 2009 13:50
Harry Reid, Nevada's state embarrassment is having lots of "senior moments" these days. On the one hand, he plans to fight the seating of Roland Burris because the governor who appointed him is "tainted." Bearing in mind that Blago has not been convicted of any crime and is still the sitting governor of Illinois, Reid plans to violate the Constitution by refusing to allow Burris to become a US Senator. Funny, I don't recall good ol' Harry resigning when he was ethically challenged. Or demanding that Bill Clinton resign when he was impeached. Or refusing to acknowledge any other Democrat who was outside the law or violating the Constitution. Burris has done nothing wrong. Blago hasn't been convicted of any crimes yet. But Harry thinks he has to come up with a "moral high ground" and has chosen the wrong issue (as usual).
On the other hand, Al Franken(stein) clearly lost his bid against Norm Coleman. Did anyone hear Harry's big mouth telling Franken(stein) he wouldn't be seated? Of course not! That particular election is going to be tied up for a long time with more recounts. If there is any honesty allowed, Coleman will retain his seat and Franken(stein) can go back on the stage to bore his audiences again. Maybe Harry should try being a comdeian, I'm sure Franken(stein) could give him some lessons.

Well, there you go again.
Make sure you read the constitution....the senate is given the right to judge the qualifications of people to serve. Blago the fool should have done the right thing and stepped aside.
As for Franken, the state convassaing board declared him the winner. Coleman is being a sore, sore loser. So, again, you're just wrong on the facts.

The Political Brief
Wylie, the Senate has the right to say that someone is unqualified to serve. Criminal behavior (with convictions) or inexperience would disqualify a Senator. However, Roland Burris is far more qualified that B.O. (B.S.) is, having been in government for a large number of years and having held state office. If they declare him unqualified, they have to dump their precious prez. elect, too. So, once again, Wylie, you're wrong. Blago is still the sitting governor and has the Constitutional right to appoint whomsoever he wants to fill the vacancy. Since Franken(stein) demanded enough "recounts" and magically "found" new ballots enough to elect him... after how many tries? he should be the one unqualified and rejected for the senate seat. I don't have a dog in the one fight, since I hate to see Democrats get elected for anything. But according to the law and the Constitution, Burris should be in and Franken(stein) should be out.

Round Politics
As for Franken what worries me is that some precincts there were more votes than people register to vote, and all the extra one went to Franken. I would be a sore winner if I were Coleman, because his win has been stolen.

Let me first commend you all on some great discussions. I truly enjoy my visits and commend you all
Some Brief Thoughts:
Article 1 of the constitution says that the Senate shall deem who is to be accepted. So, there are some constitutional arguments to be made here. As for Blago, he just wants to make things tough. I am sorry to say this: either he is a wacko or an idiot. I have seen reports that Burris and Harry Reid are meeting tomorrow and hopefully this sideshow wil be finished. We've got more important issues to solve.
As for Franken, the state canvassing board has certified franken the winner based on the reporting I have seen from Minnpost.com Coleman has said that he would challenge it. It is his right. If the State Supreme Court finds for Coleman, then that is the way it is.
One last thing on Harry Reid: He is in trouble on the home front according to reports out of Nevada. We'll be for quite an interesting few years here.
