The "Broken" Heartland

It isn't hard to see where priorities are when the "chips are down". Topeka, Kansas has shown who matters and who doesn't with a graphic display of insanity.
Budget cuts, necessary due to federal demands and fiscal irresponsibility, are being made. Those "tough choices" that we've been hearing about are here! Did Topeka cut off funding for Planned Parenthood? Of course not. I mean, they can't stop killing babies in Dr. Tiller's (or Kathleen Sibelious') home turf! Did they stop funding drug addicts or illegal aliens? Nope, good democrat voters all. Did they look for ways to cut out waste and better use the resources they have? Are you kidding? So, what did they do to save money, you might ask?
They decided to stop prosecuting domestic violence! Really Long Link Yeah, that should solve all their problems, shouldn't it? I'm sure the next battered woman or child will understand why it's no longer illegal to harm them. Their injuries will no doubt heal up according to this new law. I mean, what's a few broken bones or black eyes? A couple of trips to the hospital here and there. Not that anyone who is likely to be an abuser will get carried away by the fact that he can't be arrested and keep beating until his victim dies. That couldn't happen, right?
I wonder if self defense will be allowed under this new law...? I mean, if it's legal for someone to beat another person just because they're related, will it be illegal for the victim to fight back and kill or injure their attacker? Or will it be like the "old days" where wife-beating was winked at, but any woman who dared to fight back went to prison?
What do you suppose will happen when it gets around that domestic violence is no big deal in Topeka, folks? Will every abusive creep have a field day? Will new folks move there, just so they can get away with whatever they choose to do? It would serve the city right to be inundated with miscreants.
Makes you wonder where they'll draw the line... is a black eye or a split lit all right? How about broken bones? A few trips to the Emergency Room? Or will the women of Topeka start getting gun permits, maybe? Wouldn't that be an interesting case for the Supreme Court? Sure would make some legal inroads. Battery being legal, would a victim then become the criminal for self defense? Oh probably...
Topeka has opened a big, fat can of worms. It probably won't take long to find out.

They could stop paying for abortions, cut back on red tape that cost untold dollars, but to pick on the abused that are isolated, and afraid seems to me to be cruel, and heartless.
Now the abuser has permission to batter and abuse their victims, that have to suffer it in silence with no hope of help, or justice.
