Responding to an Athiest
July 21st 2008 13:23
There are several fellow Orblers who appear to be athiests. Likewise, there are others of us who have strongly held religious beliefs, some Jewish, some Christian. There always seems to be a battle going on somewhere in the Orble universe between the Godly and the Godless. I found the article linked below and thought it was an excellent response to those athiests who deny the existence of God.
Take that, you non-believers!

im an Atheist but i like reading anything new
it seemed like Souza was saying God didnt create man from new but sort of "possessed" the human animal (in a positive way) 5000 years ago and turned us into the intellectuals we are today (seperate from the animal kingdom)

The problem with debating with atheists on technical grounds is that the atheist is often better prepared to do so along those lines because he or she is likely to be a more lineal thinking person. Rationalistic, and less given to giving much thought to the possibility that Someone might be there. Or that the earth didn't just pop into existence: it had to have an originating cause.
For the atheist to admit that the earth didn't just pop into existence (admittedly of course over millions of years)
that would inevitably shatter one of his or her strongest beliefs that there was no Creator or Creative force beyond whatever some scientist can "prove" in a lab.
It's all of a sudden humbling and understandably frightening and Christians must be extremely sensitive to this as we wish our atheistic friends would towards us. Read C.S. Lewis' conversion story about him suddenly realizing there is a God and what a miserably feeling Christian when his moment of conversion (or reversion) came. He was a proud and accomplished Oxford professor before he rejoined the Ch of E. But his pride was of a much more refined variety. ("Mere Christianity," a modern-day classic.)

I studied geology (among other things) in college and understand the fossil record as well as anyone else (other than experts, of course) and the missing links are just not there. If humans came from apes, why do we still have apes?
It's a fascinating study, in any case, and at times downright hilarious! As for me and mine, we believe the Bible (while still not accounting for the time of one of God's days!)
