Affirmative Action
December 2nd 2006 01:42
Ward Connerly (African-American white, Native American) has plenty to say about affirmative action. He believes in a “color blind society” and I agree with him completely. Deciding on who goes to college or gets the job shouldn’t have anything to do with race or ethnicity. Martin Luther King jr. would be horrified at how wrong thing have gone since his “I have a dream” speech. If I’m accused of a crime, I want a Good Lawyer at the top of the field. Not a person who skated through law school because of where his ancestors came form. The color is not the least bit important to me. The same goes for a doctor, nurse, teacher, or any other professional. I don’t want my grandkids to loose their hard work in high school by being deprived if a college education because their skin color was wrong. I don’t want my husband laid off so a gay can have his job. America resembled a (Melting Pot) in years gone by. The diversity of ancestry in America should make us stronger with everyone being equal, not divide us into neat little groups who can’t get along. Abilities and merits should be the measuring stick, not race, creed, gender, or anything else.
