Long, Long Month...
April 30th 2008 14:44
April has been quite busy for me. I entered a script writing contest on the 1st and submitted my script on schedule. It was my first effort at writing a script and let me tell you, writing novels is a breeze in comparison!
The challenge was to create a 100 page script, screen ready (including camera angles and direction aids) in 30 days! It's doable, but it ain't easy! Mine may have been easier than most, because I adapted a novel I wrote last year "Glimmer of a Distant Sun" (that hasn't been published yet). So at least I knew where the story was going when I started the script. In a novel, you can use thought process as the story unfolds, but you can't do that in a script. Everything has to be told with dialog and camera angles. Wow! It isn't easy to get into the mind of a serial killer without using his own thoughts! I have a whole new respect for the folks who create movies!
Anyway, I received a certificate this morning. The award is for having completed the script in time. Guess that makes me "an award winning screen writer." Pretty cool! The scripts will be circulated among producers and directors from all over the world. I'll let you know if there are any buyers out there. Wish me luck!
In case anyone is interested, the story is about a small town where bad guys start disappearing and good guys are being murdered. The one killer has found the perfect way to hide his victims and his identity while the other one is obvious but untouchable. The story is about their war of wills and the destruction that happens as the battle rages. It was more fun to write as a novel than to adapt, but at least it's done now and I can relax.
Whew....
