Rush is Doing Well!
July 2nd 2008 19:54
You've probably heard by now that Rush Limbaugh has hit another milestone. He has signed a contract for FOUR HUNDRED MILLION DOLLARS! Boy, that's a nice round number, isn't it? His income exceeds those of all the major network TV anchors, combined!
Let's see now, why do you suppose that he's doing so well...? Could it possibly be that he has a humongus audience? Yep. That's probably why... Next question, obviously is "Why does he have so many people listening to him every day?" That's a tough one. NOT!
Even people who disagree with his politics or opinions listen to him. I know a few who say they only listen because they want to know what "the enemy" is up to. It probably makes them nervous when he's right about one of their treasured beliefs (and they discover how wrong they are!) Maybe it causes a little despair as well, because he speaks for so many others. That's what got him his start, you know. He said what others thought, and he had a platform (radio) from which to speak. That's where the term "dittohead" comes from, folks. So many of his callers agreed with him that they started saying "Ditto!" instead of citing everything he said that they liked. It was both quicker and easier.
His audience numbers in the millions every day, mostly because he says what the rest of us are thinking and does it with clarity and humor. His sponsors love to advertise their products and services with him because they make a fortune at it. Radio stations get more listeners by airing his show. He even allows people with differing opinions to have their say (without being forced to do it as the Fairness Doctrine would demand). He has opened the door of public discourse for everyone from Fox News Channel, to all the other talk radio hosts (like Sean Hannity, Bill O'Reilly, Tom Sullivan and thousands of local station hosts). Just by being there, he has encouraged other millions (myself included) to speak their mind and proudly stand up for what they believe.
Does Rush need the extra 400 million? Probably not. Does he deserve it? Every single cent! He has proven time and again that freedom of speech is a great thing and a wonderful blessing. Congratulations Rush!
