Ron Paul

My friend, Tommy the Silent, suggested I should say something about Ron Paul. So here goes...
I don't know a whole lot about Ron Paul. But some of what I do know sounds pretty good. He seems to be in favor of the traditional Republican values of smaller government and would cheerfully remove the IRS. That I like a lot!
Unfortunately, he doesn't seem to remember 9/11 and thinks we should pull out of the War on Terror. That's as irresponsible as the Dems who pretend they would "get us out of Iraq." Even they, in their rare sane moments, know it's a bad idea. We can't leave until the Iraqi government is able to stand on its own. Mr. Paul seems to be lost in another time, long ago, when international problems had nothing to do with us. It isn't that way any more. The problems of the entire world became ours many years ago, most forcefully during World War Two. Imagine if we had remained "isolationist" and not lifted a finger to stop Japan and Germany? I wonder if he had been in the White House on Dec. 7, 1941 what he would have done? Let it slide? What would he have done on 9/11? Made excuses for the attacks being our own fault (like some of the libs/dems)? Being against "interventionism" sounds fine until we are attacked. Ron Paul doesn't seem to understand that part. It's a global economy with repercussions these days.
My main difficulty with Mr. Paul is that lots of people will give their support to him and allow a dem/lib victory. He's what they call a "third teir candidate" with no chance of winning. I hope you'll all remember that Ross Perot had some good ideas, too. Every vote cast for him helped to put Bill (the Zipper) Clinton into the White House. Voting for what you consider the "perfect" candidate can put the worst person possible into office. Do we really want that to happen again?
