I am highly opinionated with a firm grip on the difference between right and wrong. I pay more attention to the candidates and the issues than to precise party lines. My facts are just that... FACTS- and my opinions are MY opinions- Regardless of what the subject, you can always find a good read on my blog, I write about various issues and not everything is focused on the subject of politics. Could Someone Please Define "Progressive"

May 10th 2008 17:45
I keep hearing about both Hillary and Obama having "progressive" platforms. The term just doesn't make sense to me. Their liberal ways are hardly my definition of "progressive."

They want higher taxes, what exactly is progressive about that? Losing half of the paycheck we work for doesn't sound like progress to me.

Abortion on demand. Killing children is now considered "progress?" Please...

They want to increase "windfall" taxes on oil companies. Is it "progressive" to bring the costs of fuel up even higher than they are?

They say the want to "end the war and bring the troops home." Is it now progressive to hand the middle east over to terrorists?

They want unlimited benefits for illegal aliens, at tax payer expense. How is that "progressive?"

They want to forbid home-schooling and force parents to deal with the garbage their children are taught in the state indoctrination centers. That's progress?

They love playing the race card (both of them do it!) at every turn. I always thought progress was getting rid of race as an issue.

They still forbid drilling for our own oil and keeping prices sky high. That's progress?

Algore and his gang (with whom all the candidates seem to agree) wants us to return to stone-age lifestyles (except for themselves, of course) and it's called "progressive?"

It sounds to me like their idea of "progress" is to sink us into the abyss of all the failed dogmas they have foisted on us before.

If anyone can find "progress" in any of this, please, speak up!

Hey S.L. you have nailed again. What they have sneaked past most American is regression not progression.

The Dems are on a path of destruction for America, just look at the green movement. By causing Americans to want and use Bio-fuels they have drove up food prices to rates that the poor cannot continue to pay.

This was an ill thought out plan, where it made Al Gore richer, and the poor, poorer. Didn't anyone think that taking our food supply and turning it into fuel would decrease our food supply and drive up prices.

I feel like sometimes telling them to stand up and let the circulation back to their brains. I read a post by pop con where there were more effective means of Bio-fuel that didn't mess with the food supply. Really long link

Obama is calling for change, but has never stated to what change he wanted well maybe the change he wants is the things listed in your post here, Higher taxes, more abortion.

They want to forbid any short term energy increase, such as drilling in Anwar, in the ocean, and the shale deposit out west. We must deal with the short term in order to make it to the long term. But staying dependent on foreign oil is their idea of progressive thinking.

Their progress can also be spelled D.I.S.A.S.T.E.R., Lester. The key is in what you said about thinking. They don't. PopCon has some really good ideas about algae. We don't eat algae, so it would be the perfect solution. But the libs/dems aren't smart enough to see that. They want to make us cut back on everything (and they fly all over the world in private jets to make sure we listen to them.) Gore alone spends many thousands of dollars every month on his utilities for his mansion while telling the rest of us to give up using fans in the summer. He has his limos and wants us to walk to work. Hillary, Obama and McCain all are deep into the "green" theories. Their ideas of "green" is undoubtedly money rather than real, honest care for the environment. They love to gripe about oil money while being unwilling to actually do anything that could help.

I saw that in your previous post you misspelled Obama's first name - It's Barack, with a C.

Sorry. I usually just hear the name, don't often see it in print.

hi S.L.

i dont know exactly what their specific policies of Obama or Clinton are but generally "progressive" refers to workers unions and civil liberties etc . . . the idea being to provide a more level playing field so the poor and minorities are not disadvantaged . . . id imagine they refer to government intervention into health-care to make it affordable to all and other "socialist" ideas to bridge the gap between the rich and the poor, basically more government control . . . also environmental conservation

perhaps they are planning to investigate greener fuel and energy sources?

i think i heard obama say he planned on endorsing civil unions for gay couples?

i wont talk about abortion as i already know we disagree but perhaps it would be better to have a stronger public education system with more resources so parents dont have to resort to homeschooling (i would imagine that is a financial burden for the poor having to spend time teaching when they could be working?) and there is less opportunity for cults etc to abuse the right to homeschool and sever the childs contact with society?

just a few ideas . . .

Left versus Right is a British trick to divide and conquer people since the French Revolution. If you want to reverse insane policies of the last 40 years, you're going to have to do better than that.

Hi Morgan. I see what you mean. Worded that way, the liberal ideas almost sound palatable. On a closer inspection, however, there is nothing "progressive" about socialism.

Hi Howard. Howard, do you mean the terms "left and right" or the conservative vs. liberal struggle? I don't understand what you mean.

right- is preservation and defense of the old regime. (ie. French monarchy). left- is a radical re-distribution and re-alignment for the people, the masses (as in 1789, French Revolution).
