Line Crossers
March 2nd 2008 14:17
As I've said before, most of my family are Democrats. Some of them register as Republicans so they can be dramatic and "cross party lines" in every election. I've always found the practice offensive. It seems so dishonest...
Rush Limbaugh (for whom I have great respect) has suggested that we Republicans "cross party lines" during the remaining primaries and vote for Hillary. I can understand the rationale of keeping the Hillary/Obama battle going until the convention. With two candidates being just alike, it can't be easy to choose. And the longer the process drags out, the better the voters can get to know them both, hopefully coming to the realization that neither of them is qualified to be the president of anything.
In spite of the fact that I can understand the reasoning, I can't do it. My state's primary is over so I couldn't "cross the party line" if I wanted to. But even if my primary were yet to come, I couldn't bring myself to vote for anyone I don't believe in. Casting my ballot for Hillary (or Obama) would make me feel dirty and wrong, almost as though I could agree with any of their positions, whatever their positions might be... Never, ever...!!
I can't encourage anyone to vote for either of them, but keeping Hillary in the race a little while longer could serve a purpose. It'll be interesting to see what happens as the primaries come along.
