I am highly opinionated with a firm grip on the difference between right and wrong. I pay more attention to the candidates and the issues than to precise party lines. My facts are just that... FACTS- and my opinions are MY opinions- Regardless of what the subject, you can always find a good read on my blog, I write about various issues and not everything is focused on the subject of politics. I hope you enjoy!

Edwards, Obama and Johnson

July 21st 2007 16:54
I've said it before and I'll keep on saying it! You can't legislate or tax a country into prosperity! On the news again this morning was the story of how John Edwards wants government to put an end to poverty. Barak Obama has jumped on the same bandwagon. Hillary will probably do the same. Lyndon Johnson tried it with the "War on Poverty" and it was a dismal failure! Neither this government nor any other can stop poverty with social programs! If you want less poverty, there are reasonable ways to work on it. Improve education (not by lowering standards, but by raising them and encouraging students to strive for better grades.) Cut down on illigitimacy (not by abortion, but by stronger moral values teaching that future success isn't bought with sex.) Tax breaks for big business to enable training programs and mentoring. Involving Church groups and the private sector in working with the homeless and addicted. Stop worrying about raising the minimum wage (every time it goes up, small businesses go under, leaving more people out of work) and prices go up, keeping the minimum wage earners in the same position they were in before. Give tax breaks to small businesses to keep them operating and able to hire new employees. Get rid of the philosophy that "nothing is ever wrong" and "we can't be judgemental." Those ideas encourage bad behavior and ignore the consequences of dangerous activities. Make people accountable for their actions. Stop being soft on crime and criminals and make it known that certain behaviors will not be tolerated by society. Set standards for kids when they're young and expect those same standards to apply for everyone.

Poverty is a fact of life, all over the world, folks. Nowhere is it completely absent! Our poor are better off than most of the worlds "lower classes." Allowing a politician in an election cycle to ride to victory on the backs of the poor is unconscionable! But it happens every time. As a general rule, I've noticed that Dems carp on the same things every time they want to get elected. They gripe about poverty and how they'll fix it (but once elected, they do the same nothing they did before). They gripe about the crime rate and how they'll fix it (which they also never do.) They complain about the poor state of healthcare and come up with ridiculous schemes like "Hillary-care" when lowering taxes to enable working families to afford their own healthcare would work much better. They bitch about education and the sorry condition it's in, but after the election they do little or nothing to improve it.

The only role government should have in any of the above is to enable the private sector and churches to work on the problems (with a better hope of success, I might add!) and to lead by example (not the "do as I say, not as I do" method currently in use.)

What you don't say is that poverty has gone down in every modern Democratic Admin and gone up under every modern Republican. It is a gross crime that the fastest growing groups in America are super rich (over 30 million) and the poor. As for health care, the most expensive system in the world is far, far from the best...see Michael Moore's SIcko...

Well, hello, Jeff... It's been awhile, hasn't it? Changing statistics on paper isn't very difficult. Boosting statistics on poverty is a common practice, which I'm just sure you didn't know... Funny how the "homeless problem" gets magnified during a Republican administration and deflated during a Dem reign. Please, Jeff, tell me how successful the first "War on Poverty" turned out to be! I can't wait to hear your spin! LOL

As for watching Moby Moores autobiography (with all the inacuracies and altered facts) when I want to watch trash, I'll stare at my garbage can! Perhaps you can answer something for me, being such a Moore fan, Jeff. How is it that his much vaunted Cuban medical system couldn't even cure Castro? They had to send for a doctor from Spain and he nearly died anyway! Oh, and the 20,000 Cuban doctors who are in Venezuela and other Cuba-friendly countries... if their country is so perfect and wonderful, why is it that every last one of them wants to escape to America? I saw an interview with one of those doctors and he said it, loud and clear. If you and Moby Moore think Cuba is so great, why don't you move there? I'm sure the thousands of escapees would gladly let you take their places!

Moore is admittingly a fraud. He admits to taking things well out of context to promote his political view points. His works are nothing more than 'fraudumentaries'. In fact in one of his latest interviews he lashed out at the press saying that he doesn't like talking to the press because they tend to do what he does and twist the words that are said. And yes, he used himself in that example. Not to mention the other interviews past with Fahrenheit 911 and laughing about the fact that he 'only hired the best voice impersonators to get the message across' with those in his film. He is a flopped comedian at best.

Hey Jeff, your message lacks foundation and truth. Go get educated and then pretend to have a brain... people might then believe you or at least take you a little more seriously.

Hello Natasha and Long Time Reader! I, too, expected Jeff to be much to busy to come around to my blog. Guess he's got the day off and nothing better to do. He obviously hasn't spent much time learning about politics or spelling. But being a Moby Moore fan will do that to you, I guess. Like being a Gore believer, it seems to rot the brain. How sad....

Ah, the friendly confines of a right wing blog..from what I am gathering, you all think that poverty is going down under Mr. Bush?
I submit a challenge to any who will take it...give me one positive result of the Bush Admin or conservatives in general in the last six years...(and please, they must be real, not trite talking points (like fighting them over there so we don't have to fight them here) post it on my blog and I will effectively dismantle it, as well as offer real liberal alternatives...anyone up for it?

As I am new to this blog format, I apologize for the last entry, it should have been noted as mine.

If you don't mind, Jeff, since the challenge was made on my blog I'll just respond right here.

Perhaps you haven't noticed, but we haven't been attacked again (on our own soil) since 9/11. That's one thing Pres. Bush and the Republicans have accomplished that even you can't deny. Between Homeland Security and the Patriot Act, investigations and enforcement have stopped several planned attacks before they could be carried out.

"No Child Left Behind" is improving education (granted, not as quickly as it might have if the teachers hadn't fought it so hard). Phonics is working to teach reading and improve the all around grades of thousands of students. School accountability is slowly growing, in spite of Teachers Union efforts.

The Dow Jones and S&P are at all time highs, in large part due to the tax cuts, and the National Debt is shrinking.

How's that for a start?

One more thing, Jeff. Since you're new to Orble, you should know that Orble readers appreciate honest debate and discussion. Tirades, tantrums, threats and dirty words don't impress anyone around here. Try to remember this is Orble, not AC.

While I don't appreciate the smugness of that last comment (one only look at the posts above to see personal attacks) I will remain above the board and respond...
First, I fully expect we will be attacked again, if it looks like the next election will be a debacle for the Repubs..they came close to establishing their one party rule, and aren't likely to just let it go.
The rights we have lost "patriot" act and the like-have not stopped anything verifiable. Plots stopped have been done through legitimate police work.(informants, etc)
No Child Left Behind has caused some test scores to go up, but hasn't done anything to prepare students for the real world...oh, I guess it has...more potential recruits for the military!
The Stock Market is a fool's paradise. It has been growing on mergers, acquistions, and takeovers, as well as foriegn markets. Lately it has began to show its weakness. I will go on record saying the Dow will be below 10,000 by this time next year...the tax cuts have done nothing except expand the gap between rich and poor, and the deficit going down..that's a laugher...we all know the previous numbers were overinflated so that when it came in a few billion lower it would look like progress...it's like saying you are going to max out your new 10,000.00 limit card and then patting yourself on the back when you stop at 8,000.00...

Jeff, can you hear yourself? First of all we haven't been attacked because the CIA and FBI are now allowed to communicate (which Clinton forbade, remember Jamie Gorelick?) The Patriot Act has its place and isn't a problem, except for those who are planning new attacks! Does that include you Jeff? Or do you just want to protect terrorists?

Until you have a clue about the average volunteer, you might want to shut up. As it happens, most of the volunteer military have at least high school educations. Many of them are college graduates. Many more gave up lucrative careers to serve their country and fight terrorism. Its a pathetic lib/Dem lie about the whole army (Navy, Marine and Air Force, too) being made up of desperate young people who just want to get a decent education. Hellooo? Jeff?? Do you think they're all so stupid they don't know we're at war?

Concerning the Stock Market, go ahead and predict whatever you want. But try to remember that everyone benefits from a strong economy. When Clinton paraded the projected surplus, it wasn't real, but the libs/Dems couldn't stop bragging about the prosperity he created. Bull dookey! Anyone who has the smallest clue about economics understands that tax cuts raise the economy and higher taxes mess it up. Even the all-time Dem hero, JFK understood that! If people get to keep more of their money, they spend more, save more and invest more. That's according to Prof. Walter E. Williams of George Washington University. He's what they call an expert, Jeff, not a starry eyed liberal tax raiser.
