I am highly opinionated with a firm grip on the difference between right and wrong. I pay more attention to the candidates and the issues than to precise party lines. My facts are just that... FACTS- and my opinions are MY opinions- Regardless of what the subject, you can always find a good read on my blog, I write about various issues and not everything is focused on the subject of politics. I hope you enjoy!

Vice Pornographer?

November 5th 2007 10:43
I just heard a nauseating rumor, folks. There is some speculation that porn writer Jim Webb (D-Va.) may be lining up as a Vice Presidential candidate. It wasn't bad enough that we had one pig in the White House who was obsessed with his own crotch, now we might wind up with a slime who writes kiddie porn! How disgusting is that?

James Webb used to write books, in case you didn't know. He used highly explicit sexual situations involving children in his stories. I won't mention the names of his books because there might be some who would actually buy them and I refuse to have any part in making a dime for a scum like him.

It isn't just the fact that he likes kiddie porn that bothers me, either (although that would be quite enough to keep my vote a million miles away from him!). His son is in the military and he has yet (as far as I know) bothered to go to the war zone. Other politicians have gone to support troops they didn't even know, but this jerk won't even show up to pretend support for his own son. When President Bush dared to ask how his son was doing, Webb snubbed him, at the White House!

Jim Webb is also a member of Harry Reid's nasty little clique and attends meetings with Reid to blather on about how we've lost the war and how private citizens should be censored in the public marketplace (Rush Limbaugh for one).

So the libs/dems consider kiddie porn acceptable, they think it's perfectly O.K. to allow senators to abuse their power to try to damage a private citizen, and they might consider voting for a Vice President who clearly doesn't support the troops (including his own son!) when they all make such a noise about their love for our military. I guess they didn't get enough disgusting behavior with Bill (the Zipper) and want something even worse to brag about. Why doesn't it surprise me...?

I'd give you the benefit of the doubt but no.

I looked up Jim Webb and right from the get go I realized you're twisting facts, he's actually been to a war zone. The Vietnam war to be exact. Like John Mccain he stands up there with those who have served their country, unlike George Bush who went out of his way to avoid conscription.

But who am I to bring the do-no-wrong president?

You say he's written books about porn, yet I've looked high and low and can't find anything, he's best known for his novel 'Field of Fire' which was critically praised for its depiction of the vietnam war.

Suffice to say I haven't read any of his work but from what I understand he has not romanticized the idea of 'kiddie porn', in fact what he was doing was describing something that is seen as culutrally acceptable. In fact he was describing something he saw first hand in Bangkok, he was not making it up, he was describing an event.

Before going crazy and accusing the Thai of being pedophiles you have to look into the nature of the supposed crime. He describes the father kissing an infant boys penis which as seen in Thai culture is perfectly normal and, also as viewed by the Thai, has no sexual aspects about it. Does it sound wierd? Well yes, but we are talking about different cultures here. I'm sure they find a lot of Western culture to be wierd.

But wierd does not mean bad, and describing a foreign culture is not at all bad. Let me tell you why not, in certain circlces of Judaism,

Metzitzah b'peh ("suction by mouth") is a practice in Haredi and Hasidic circles in which, after removing the foreskin, the mohel will suck out the blood from the wound to clean it. The mohel spits the blood into a receptacle provided. Afterwards the circumcised penis is bandaged, and the brit considered complete.

Is that wierd? Well yes, to me thats kind of oddball, do I automatically assume theres some sort of sexual aspect to it? No, as wierd as it is, it's just that.

In essence all this controversy about Jim Webb writing about child porn is no more than his recollections of experiences in a foreign land, which initself was not even sexually motivated.

Heres a more direct example of the misunderstandings of culture (passages taken from the article linked):

Such kisses are signs of affection, not sexual abuse, ruled the Maine Supreme Court in 1996 when it overturned a sexual assault conviction of an Afghan immigrant who was similarly photographed with his 18-month-old son. The court ruled that the father kissing his son's penis was a common cultural practice and not a sexual act.

"Kissing a young son on every part of his body is considered a sign only of love and affection for the child," the court said in its ruling. "There is nothing sexual about this practice."

"It shouldn't be looked at as a crime," said Ludwig Adamec, a professor emeritus of Middle East history at the University of Arizona's Center for Near Eastern Studies, who testified as an expert in the Maine case.

Needless to have I have not read the book in question, either. But if it was a purely cultural description he was writing and he wasn't ashamed of it, why did he make such an effort to keep it out of the public eye when he was running for office? Maybe I missed it, but I don't recall him having any answer other than "No comment" when asked about his story.

By the way, is it also part of some culture to insert bananas into early teen aged girls and have a crowd watch as they squeeze it out, pinching off a piece at a time? Or was he just watching and writing about it because he liked it?

Something I forgot to mention in the blog, so I'll do it here. Jim Webb had his best friend take guns into the Capitol for him. That's a felony. His friend caught hell for it and Webb was questioned, but he managed to skate with some convoluted and lame (and changing) story.

My opinion of Webb stands.

He didn't, he's won lots of praise for his works, it could have only helped his campaign. In hindsight he probably would have rather been more open about it because it was made to look like something he was ashamed of.

Maybe I missed it, but I don't recall him having any answer other than "No comment" when asked about his story.

If that was his answer then it falls under the line of 'I won't dignify that accusation with a response'.

I'm not willing to comment on other aspects of Webb's political career without looking into it.

The poor simpletons voted him in less than a year ago. If they think he's Vice-Presidential material they're crazy. With him on the ticket, though, it could be a guaranteed loss for the libs/dems. Let's hope it works that way!
