All Hail the Royalty of NIMBY
July 18th 2008 16:17
Isn't it amusing (and pathetic at the same time) how the "royalty of NIMBY" seem to get only the publicity they want? You've heard of the magical land of NIMBY, haven't you? It's where the super libs all live. They screech and preach at the top of their vaunted lungs (smoke-free lungs, they say) about what the rest of us should do to be as perfect as they are.
Barack Obama doesn't seem to have a problem with the "tobacco police" enforcing when and where the rest of us can smoke. But he lights up any time he thinks his wife won't catch him!
Members of Congress support the draconian smoking laws everywhere but in their own buildings, too.
Then we have Al Gore who expects the rest of us to go without heat in the winter and driving our own cars to increase his "carbon credit" profits, while he uses enough gas and electricity to power a small city.
Ted Kennedy is all for wind and solar energy as long as they don't infringe on his view.
But they are simply the minor royalty of NIMBY. The newly coronated King and Queen are Tim Robbins and Susan Sarandon. They blast away at how much we should do "for the poor" and how the rest of us should cough up higher taxes for welfare for everyone (including illegals). Of course, when a new hospital was proposed for their own neighborhood (a hospital that would have spent 40 million dollars a year caring for the poor and indigent, mind you) they were first in line to approve the idea. As long as it was built someplace else. "Those people" might give their upper-crust neighborhood a bad name, by hanging around waiting to see a doctor. Can't have that, can we??
Have you ever visited NIMBY, folks? It's not far from the "Hallowed Halls" and "Ivory Towers". It's found to be filled with poverty and prejudice and greed and very shallow waters (and people). NIMBY is almost anywhere at all... just "Not In My Back Yard."
