The Feminist Boondoggle
September 3rd 2008 04:58
I have been having a debate (if you can call it that...) with a fellow Orbler on Really Long Link about what real feminism is. My opponent isn't the sharpest knife in the drawer (or the coldest beer in the fridge as Youranter would have said) but she is devoted to the fact that "real feminists" all love abortion. Sarah Palin is the epitome of a strong woman, a "feminist" if you will. Who has reached for the proverbial stars and attained them. She is the Vice Presidential candidate, selected to run with John McCain. She brings all the best of feminism to the Republican ticket while not compromising her values and beliefs. The liberal buffoons are making a big deal out of her having a Down Syndrom child. "Can she do her job and still take care of the baby?" While showing pictures of Nasty Pelosi with a grandchild on her lap and marvelling that she can run her family and the government, both (they don't mention the tiny approval rating that the Pelosi congress has, of course!) The liberal media and other morons have started in on Mrs. Palin's daughter getting pregnant at 17 years of age. My youngest daughter was married at 16, for goodness sakes. Barack Obama's mother gave birth to him (hardly a liberal attribute, having a baby these days!) at 18. The girl intends to marry the father of the child (hardly something to warm the cockels of the liberal heart!) and allow her child to live. If Sarah Palin had killed her Down Syndrom child and forced her daughter to kill her illigetimate baby, the liberals would love her. If her daughter were a lesbian who had the artifical insemination, they'd praise her. If she planned to go on welfare, they'd call her a hero. But no, she's going to keep her baby, made in the natural way, and marry the father, so the liberals and the media have to find fault with Mrs. Palin because she obviously didn't raise her children right.(Or left...)
For the first time, I am not utterly disgusted with Barack Obama! He actually said that the children and other relatives of candidates should be off-limits to criticism. Someone must have written the line for him. It actually sounds human!

Money Baffle
I am in a high-powered position for a major corporation. I have five children and my husband stays at home to raise our children -- including the youngest who is 18 months. This does not make me less of a woman and it doesn't make him less of a man. We both love our children very much and my husband plans to reenter the work force in a few more years.
My belief system is very strong and I don't believe in abortion either. At my age, we were very concerned that my last child could have Down Syndrome. Like Palin, there is no way I would consider abortion as an option if that had been the case. Fortunately, my daughter was very healthy so we did not have to confront that issue.
All feminists are not alike. I consider myself to be a feminist. We all have our own opinions and values. The one thing that all feminists have in common is that we strongly believe in the power of a woman. Most people equate this to the power of choice when it comes to abortion. I say that actually occurs much sooner. I have the power to say no to sex or to take action to keep pregnancy from happening in the first place. Once another life inhabits my body, I consider that choice to be gone.

They did and still do the same thing to Clarence Thomas, because he is a black conservative.
And bravo Jen on a crystal clear defense of conservative feminists. I assume your husband is doing a great job.
The hypocrisy is thick. They have a double standard with regards to Palin's sex and a double standard about age with regards to McCain.
It's laughable.
