I am highly opinionated with a firm grip on the difference between right and wrong. I pay more attention to the candidates and the issues than to precise party lines. My facts are just that... FACTS- and my opinions are MY opinions- Regardless of what the subject, you can always find a good read on my blog, I write about various issues and not everything is focused on the subject of politics. I hope you enjoy!

New Novelty Items

December 1st 2008 00:45
I just heard on TV that the latest craze is to be found in Italy (Naples, to be exact). The handpainted Mary and Joseph in the manger scenes are a little different this year. They look just like B.O. and Michelle Obama. I find this more than a little disturbing... Don't we hear constantly how B.O. himself is the "Messiah?" How can he be both the "Messiah" and Joseph at the same time? And wasn't Mary a virgin? (Hence the title Virgin Mary?) So how can Michelle be depicted as the Holy Mother of God after being married and having two daughters? So which of their daughters is the Baby in the manger? Maybe one of the girls has the middle name of Jesus?

Every Christian in the world should be disgusted and horrified by this obscenity. Catholics should march on Naples first and Rome second for allowing such a sacrelige! The Pope himself should go to the "artisans" who created these things and demand an apology!

Oh, sorry, that would be Muslims who would be able to raise Cain over such a twisted insult to their religion. Christians are fair game these days, right? I wonder what would happen if one of the stable animals in the scene had the face of Mohammed? There would be blood in the streets, that's what.

Someone tell me again how I'm imagining things and that Christians and Christmas are not under attack? yeah... right...

It's called humour, SL. You, like most conservative people I know, seem to have no sense of it.

Besides, it's such a trivial thing that most people would just say "Who cares?". Like, who cares about some short-lived fad in a hole like Naples?

Also, the artisans that created the things are probably Christian themselevs, as is the overwhelming majority of Italy. So they were just being a bit silly. So who cares?? They were maybe just trying to make a penny or two by creating something eye-catching, condisering the poverty over there.

I think there are bigger examples of blasphemy in everyday life, if that's what concerns you. What about corporate greed cashing in on Christmas and Easter in ALL Western countries? Ever notice how they bring out the Easter eggs in department stores when the new year has barely even started? Kids therefore think that Easter is mainly about chocolate. Shouldn't this bother you more?

Of course it bothers me, EW, and I've mentioned it many times. Obviously you didn't catch my little touch of humor. Didn't you think that a jack ass with mohammed's face would be funny? How do you think the kind, gentle, peaceful, loving Muslims would react to that?

OK, sorry, I didn't catch that.

And yes, it would be kinda funny.

And that's exactly the problem with Muslims, SL. They (to generalise a bit) do not have any sense of humour about their religion and absolutely no ability to be self-critical. This is very sad and dangerous.

Here is something we probably agree on. I thought the uproar and violence caused by the Danish Mohammed cartoons was more than ridiculous. And shocking. It just shows how fanatically and seriously they treat their religion.

At the same time, though, I believe that this lack of humour and self-criticism is bad for ALL people, including of course Christians. Christians must not fall into the trap of being too serious about their religion, either, because then they are no better than the Muslims. We must continue to set an example as a religion that manages to co-exist in harmony with the Western principles of analysis, critical thought and freedom of speech. Because it's these principles that made Western society so progressive, enlightened and powerful in the first place.

So, in simple words, I vaguely understand your gripe here, but seriously, in the greater scheme of things, some little Obama manger fad in Naples ain't a world tragedy by any means. So chill out.

I'm so chilled, EW, that the chill is running up my spine.

I just can't get excited about being "multi-cultural" with people who want to kill me and wipe out my country. I have a very good sense of humor, except when it comes to deadly serious matters.

Well, fair enough -- I can understand that.

Except, funnily enough, the Muslim population WITHIN the USA is much better integrated than in Europe, for example. Europe has much worse problems with Muslims and Muslim extremists. This is probably because mass immigration to Europe is a relatively new concept in the scheme of history.

So, in some weird way, you actually have something to feel grateful for. I even read an article recently that the USA is a "master" at integrating immigrants -- probably even more so than other New World countries like Australia.

Notice how all the big terrorist attacks since 9/11 have been in Europe? The London bus bombings, the Madrid metro bombings and the attempted Glasgow airport bombings. Poor Europe has some serious problems on its hands.

That's a fact, EW. Unfortunately, the Muslims here are slowly turning the laws and rules to fit them, just as they have in Europe. They sue business owners for not hiring them, then once hired, they sue because the employer expects them to do their job. (Example... Two Muslim women wanted to work in a restaurant. They refused to wear the uniform and were not hired. They sued. They won. The employer now has no control over what his employees wear. Or the Muslim man who demanded a job in a grocery store but refused to handle the pork products. Owner didn't hire him, he sued, he won. Owner went out of business because the store specialized in pork products.) Do you ever read Planck's Constant?

Changing the subject... What part of Australia do you live in and what timer is it there? It's 3:26 AM in the Pacific time zone where I live.

Not up late, up early.

I have an odd schedule. Sleep awhile, work awhile.

Maybe that's why I'm so grouchy? LOL Nope, even well rested I'm grouchy and opinionated. LOL

Hey S.L. if Christians would start a jihad against anyone that defames our religious symbols maybe we could turn it around. Oh that right Christians have turned the other check so long everybody just expects us to continue turn the other check and say nothing. But one day just will be served by God himself, as he says vengeance is mine sayeth the Lord.

And if the face of one of the animals was mohammed Muslims, Christians, and the Pope would probably protest. I think we should take our religion seriously, it's the backbone of our lives why not take it seriously that's why we are in the shape we are in now we quit taking our spiritual life serious.

We'll get to stop turning the other cheek when God gets tired of seeing us get hit with the other fist, Lester. It ticks me off that we have to live by one set of rules while liberals and Muslims get to live by their own. Honestly, though, I prefer our rules to theirs. We do good and they do damage.
