How to Get Away with Identity Theft
July 24th 2008 22:56
I wrote an earlier post about a woman who has been allowed to get away with so much, she now feels quite comfortable conducting the identity theft of her own son. It turns out that she might be able to get away with this, too.
Apparently, if you steal from someone and claim that it was a "verbal agreement" you can get away with it! How's that for amazing?? It makes me want to run right out and buy a new Lexus (and maybe a Hummer, too just for good measure) and bill it to one of the legislators who thinks identity theft is funny. When he complains, I could just say, "Sorry, we had a verbal agreement and he said he'd pay!" I have a sneaking suspicion I'd get raked over the coals if I did such a thing. But then, I'm a law abiding citizen and not a career criminal.
When our laws favor the criminal we need new lawmakers, folks! Imagine someone doing it to you? Could happen. Maybe a former friend or distant cousin... hopefully not your own mother!
If the victims of this crime don't want to pay the thousands they don't owe, they can spend them on attorney fees and court costs instead, with only a 50/50 chance of winning. The worst the perpetrator has to worry about is paying for merchandise that she already has.
We really need people in office who understand the difference between right and wrong! Legislators who care more for the crime victims than the criminals would be a really nice change!
