On The Subject of Pandering
December 14th 2007 14:43
In the previous blog comments was one that made me think. It was from Howard and he accused Mike Huckabee of pandering for the Hispanic vote. Honestly, I don't know if he is or not. Everyone seems to understand that we need to stop the flow of illegals and secure our borders, but what is anyone actually willing to do about it?
The proposed fence seems very popular with some, but there are local politicians and businesses that don't want the fence (for whatever reasons) and the fence will only work if it goes all the way along the border. (Just as only the solid part of a sieve holds water.) The only really good idea I've heard about securing the borders came from Kinky Friedman when he was running for governor of Texas. He suggested hiring Mexican labor to build the fence from their own side! He also suggested that we pay the Mexican governors a set amount of money to keep their people on their own side of the border and taking money back every time they fail. All right, all right... Kinky's a comedian. But at least he had some ideas.
Removing the profit seems to be a good plan, up to a point. Like Oklahoma, if the rest of the states refused any services to illegals, they'd move along to someplace that paid them. I guess Canada would either accept the tripling of their population or adopt a similar policy to staunch the flow of illegals.
That would solve half the problem, folks. The solved half would concern legitimate people who come here illegally, looking for work or a better life. There are probably people stupid enough to believe that all illegals fall into that category. They don't.
There are criminals who come here for the "easy pickings". Illegals aren't deported and are rarely prosecuted when they committ criminal acts (like dealing drugs), until their behavior becomes so egregious there's no option. They especially love "Sanctuary Cities" where their conduct is protected and even encouraged.
All things considered, folks illegals are bad for us. The libs/dems want them to have drivers licenses under the guise of making the roads safer. Undoubtedly drivers licenses would pave the way for illegals voting as well, (and guess who would expect their vote?)
But there is an issue even greater at stake here, folks, in case you haven't noticed. Not all illegals are looking for work. Not all illegals are criminals, either. There are a few who sneak under, over, across and around the borders with even uglier motives. Terrorist cells are all over the country. Some are home grown, but many terrorists-in-training (and their teachers) came from Islamic countries to finish what the slimes on 9/11 started.
If we don't control our borders and stop ALL illegals from entering, we're just asking for another attack. And they'll be glad to oblige, I'm sure!
