When the "Helping Hand" Holds You Down

Where do we find the most striking evidence of governmental "assistance" gone wrong? It's everywhere, folks, you can look out your door or drive through your home town and see signs of it. But the most glaring examples can be found in the black community. Marriage became passe with the welfare state. No one has to take responsibility for their behavior these days...
There is no shame in having illegitimate children and nobody seems to care how they grow up. Or if they grow up! Education was once considered important, especially among black people whose ancestors were denied the opportunity to attend school. Now they shove kids through the system with low expectations, ebonics and teachers who don't even know the subject they're teaching. Children raised on welfare don't know any other way to live so they have no goals to aim and work for.
I knew a little girl who had a dream. She was raised in the drug culture and poverty. Her dream, her goal in life was to be a single mother, have a boyfriend, and maybe work at a fast food restaurant. To her, that was the ultimate goal! We had her for a year and hoped to teach her that education wasn't a sin. We tried to explain to her that church wasn't a waste of time. We did our best to prove to her that she could do more with her life. But we only had her for a year... She in now in her early thirties, on drugs, goes from one boyfriend to another on a weekly (sometimes daily) basis and has illegitimate children. We couldn't erase her early experiences in just one year...
The "helping hand" of government is an iron fist, covered in mink. Enticing and comfortable from one generation to the next, spreading sorrow and despair as it goes along, smashing the hopes, dreams and potential of everyone it touches. Now, the Welfare Reform that Bill (the Zipper) was forced to sign into law is being removed by B.O. (B.S.) as part of the "Porkulus" package. Just another example of "hope and change", right?
