I am highly opinionated with a firm grip on the difference between right and wrong. I pay more attention to the candidates and the issues than to precise party lines. My facts are just that... FACTS- and my opinions are MY opinions- Regardless of what the subject, you can always find a good read on my blog, I write about various issues and not everything is focused on the subject of politics. I hope you enjoy!

The Downfall of Icons

October 12th 2007 10:22
There was a time, not that many years ago, when the names UN and Nobel had some meaning. The UN was looked up to as the international savior in times of strife and war. If a country had a problem too big for them to handle alone, they called the UN and like the knights of old, it arrived to save the day. Under Kofi Annan, of course, a multitude of chinks began to appear in the UN armor. Their lack of concern for real emergencies while spending millions to refurbish their own buildings, their inability to resolve actual problems, their support of terrorism (by doing nothing to stop it), all these things and more made the UN an international laughing stock. And a pricey one, at that. They are now reduced to a very expensive and foolish debating society, incapable of action.

Wining a Nobel Prize for Anything used to be an honored achievement. It's stature was reduced when Jimmy Carter recieved his award. Sadly, I, like most people thought it was just a little treat for a man whose entire life had been mediocre. His presidency was pathetic, to say the least. It seemed like the well-meaning Nobel Committee was simply making nice (and had no one else to give the Award to that year!) The Nobel Committee has now joined the ranks of the UN as a ptitful shadow of it's former self.

Al Gore being given the Peace Prize is tantamount to giving Kim Jong Il or Mahmoud Ahmadinejad a Humanitarian Award! Next, they'll be giving out their formerly valuable Prizes to cats for using their litter boxes! No, wait, if the cat uses his litter box, he has at least earned recognition for doing something right, huh?

I couldn't believe Gore won that prize. It just shows the whole world is going crazy. Your previous post on the UK judge was spot on. Too bad more people around the world don't know how to question propaganda.

Slowly but surely the truth is getting out. Once the hullabaloo dies down a little more, maybe the facts will come to light. There are those already who are saying the Academy Award and Nobel prize are illigitimate and that Gore should return both. If enough voices come together maybe they can overwhelm the mantra. Gore's fame could carry him to a win if the elections were held today. Lets hope the UK judge isn't alone and the people get the message.

I was embarrassed by Pres. Bush giving Gore congratulations. It was the polite thing to do, I suppose, but it made him look foolish, nonetheless.

I assure you, and Youranter whom I respect, even while disagreeing, that the world isn't going crazy. If Mr. Chaney suggested that global warming was a real issue, you would be on that side!

And there are those who believe all sorts of absurdities. As Calvin Trillin noted:

They think that Darwin's got it wrong:
God made us all. Pow! Just like that.
It could be worse. We still don't know
How many think the Earth is flat.

Charming poetry, Jim. try not to fall off the edge, O.K.? I heard someone, probably a lib/dem say that the edge is somewhere in the Atlantic and that's where all the smokers go when second hand smoke finally gets them! lol

If Dick Cheney made the public ass of himself that Gore has over his non-existant Glo-bull (dookey) his wife would probably have him committed.

I don't always agree with the President, either, Jim. When he tries to please the libs/dems and doesn't follow his principles, I get annoyed with him. The amnesty garbage leaps to mind. He knows it's a stupid idea, but lets the left shove him in their direction. It seems that he sometimes actually believes them when they offer an "olive branch" if he'll just let them get away with more destructive plans for the country. They let him down every time, of course. His basic decency and intergrity keep him from seeing the phonies for what they are.
