I am highly opinionated with a firm grip on the difference between right and wrong. I pay more attention to the candidates and the issues than to precise party lines. My facts are just that... FACTS- and my opinions are MY opinions- Regardless of what the subject, you can always find a good read on my blog, I write about various issues and not everything is focused on the subject of politics. Venezuela Elections and the Russian Fleet

November 24th 2008 03:50
I just heard on Fox News Channel that a large part of the Russian fleet will be arriving in Venezuala in a matter of hours. Hugo Chavez (dictator of Venezuela) is close personal friends with the Castro brothers, the Russian leadership, several rogue American movie stars, and of course, B.O. Chavez also owns Citgo and is one of our main oil suppliers.

Hugo Chavez held an election awhile back, intending to be voted in as "Dictator for Life" but it didn't work. The poverty and misery of his country was more important to to voters of Venezuala than he was. Now he held another election today and expected to be elected again. The Russian fleet is coming for "war games" maybe to insure or secure his victory?

Am I the only one with serious concerns about this?

Russia, Venezuela, and even Iran have gotten very quiet since the oil market collapsed. They were running their yaps when they were banking on $150/barrel oil. That's what you get when your economy is almost wholly dependent on a single product (true for Venezuela and Iran, but a little less true for Russia).

According to the BBC, the Russian ships include the Peter the Great, one of their heavy cruisers and heaviest units in the Russian Navy. Someone's sending a serious message.

The bit about the bombers (long range Tu-95s, I'd bet) was a little worrisome, too.

Hi PopCon! Russia must have something financial going for it or they couldn't afford to send the fleet to Venezuela. The implications don't look good, do they? First Russia tries to take over Georgia (where a major pipeline runs) and now they're paying a visit to Hugo Chavez. What do you suppose they're planning?

I posted this short story awhile back noaIzumi. It makes mention of our west coast being bombarded. Could Chavez have asked the Russians to help him out and lob a few at us? The chances of B.O. doing anything but surrendering after an attack are somewhere between slim and none. And Obiden did speak of a "test" happening in B.O.'s first six months, didn't he? Wasn't there something in the statement about we'd think he did the wrong thing, but it would turn out all right in the end? A chill just ran up my spine...

S.L. if they are going to attack the west coast I hope it is in San Fransisco, it would take a little of the sting away. LOL I wonder if McCain was president elect if they would continue to flex their might.

If McCain had won, they'd surely think twice before attacking. But with B.O. it's like taking candy (the USA) away from an infant (B.O.) They don't expect any trouble at all. And they're right... If they're going to land ashore, I hope it's Frisco, too. Gavin Newsome needs a wake-up call!
