Afghan Trained

The tragedy of the Mt. Hood climbers makes a salient point. I watched with rapt attention as the climbers and heilcopters attempted to conduct a search and rescue operation. One of the commentators said that the rescue crews and chopper pilots were newly returned from Afghanistan. They were taught and tested under the worst conditions and came through as the heroes they are. The pilots and search teams proved themselves first at war and then at home. They are the best! A strange dichotomy exists in the military/civilian world. From every war we have had, have come experts in their fields. Medical advances spring up and save first the military and then civilians. Every time. The concept of triage came from the Korean War. Treat the most seriously injured first, then the less seriously injured and so on until every victim of a war or disaster has the best chance of survival. We use triage in every disaster, accident and war now, it's second nature. Arterial grafts came from war, as well. Now we get to watch and pray as the returnees from the War on Terror show what they can do to find missing hikers. Regardless of the outcome, these people have done their best with the toughest training and experience you can imagine. Amid the sorrows and tragedies of war, it's good to know that good things can happen. It's good to know that the endless training and dangerous missions abroad can come home in an effort to save civilians who are in need. God bless our military and God bless the USA!
