Fireworks, Parades (and where they can lead)
July 3rd 2011 19:43
A recent Harvard study has found that children who attend Independence Day parades are more likely to become Republicans when they grow up. How's that for amazing, folks? Patriotism as a child creates conservative adults! WOW!
Perhaps it is all in the environment, huh? Could it be that bringing your kids up to appreciate America and honor the 4th of July actually have a lasting effect? The liberals must be having nightmares over this news. It's almost as bad as taking your children to church every Sunday turning them into... gasp... Christians! Imagine all the hard work the liberals put in, trying to teach every generation to hate America and spend their lives in the system instead of living by the standards that brought this country into being. Must be a truly daunting task.
I have relatives (and some friends) who have no concept of patriotism. One such young relation proved (to my amazement and horror) just how bad it can be. She stood solemnly, hand over her heart, while a piece of music was being played on television.
"That was nice, but why?" I asked.
"Well, that was the national anthem. Aren't we supposed to stand still and put our hands over our hearts?" she asked in confusion.
"For the national anthem, yes. But that song was 'Amazing Grace'," I explained. It still boggles me that she didn't know the difference.
In church this morning, our Pastor led the congregation in the Pledge of Allegiance and then told us that the local school (which my young relative attends) refuses to allow the pledge (claiming they have no one willing or able to lead it). Is it any wonder our country is in this mess?
President Reagan was right, you know. If we forget that we are a nation UNDER GOD, we'll soon be a nation gone under. My young relative has a devout atheist father who doesn't permit any form of religion in their home. The church sent his daughter a congratulations card when she graduated form 8th grade and he was furious. And no, it wasn't my idea, the church just did it out of kindness.
Folks, between some parents and the school system, our children don't have much of a future ahead of them. My daughter home schools her kids and they do very well. But too many parents don't know what happens in the schools and forget to teach their children the basics at home.
Maybe attending 4th of July parades aren't the only answer, but it's a start. If kids have patriotism instilled in them and are taught to honor this country, it's a big step in the right direction. So, on this Independence Day, let's make sure our kids get to see parades and fireworks, carry little flags around with them and say "Thank you!" to our military.
God Bless America!

Round Politics
I can remember growing up we didn't have much, but we did celebrate Easter, Independence Day, Thanks Giving, and Christmas, they were, and still very special to me.
I read a Church Sign today that said Blessed is the Nation whose God is the Lord. It's a shame that some want to take God out of Nation to whom we would not be a Nation except for him.

Maybe we'll get someone who understands what being an American is all about in 2012. We can hope and pray.
