FEAR: The Motivator for '08
August 21st 2007 17:57
Mrs. Obama made a speech recently about "fear" and how we shouldn't allow it to rule us. It sounds very sharp and courageous on the surface, doesn't it? Let's consider the rest of her words, however to see what she really meant, shall we?
Her warning was about the "unreasonable" fear we have of "people who look different and act different and follow different beliefs." Could she possibly mean Muslim extremists? A.K.A. terrorists? Sounds a little like Rosie O'Terrorist, doesn't it? We shouldn't fear them, because they're just people... just parents like we are... right... Those nice people (of whom we have such an irrational fear) flew airplanes, loaded with innocent Americans, into the WTC towers, the Pentagon, and the field in Pa. So, they're just a little different from us and we're the villains if we fear them? They behead prisoners, but we shouldn't fear them. They preach hate and murder and insurrection all over the world, but they're just a little different and our fears are totally unfounded? If elected, her husband has voiced his intention to attack our friends in Pakistan and sit down and chat with the terrorists. After all, we really don't have anything to fear from them, do we? 3000 people who died on 9/11 would have agreed that such a thing couldn't happen, I'm sure. After all, we knew about them from the previous WTC attack, the embassy attack, the USS Cole, the barracks, etc. and nobody took them seriously. They're just parents like we are, just a little different, fear is not the answer... Sound familiar?
The other side of the "FEAR" coin is just as baffling to anyone with a brain. Global Warming... or is it called Climate Change? Or maybe it's back to Global Cooling these days...? Who can keep track of the semantics? But it's "real" and we need to not only fear it but elect people who will teach us to live in fear of it and pay higher taxes to prevent it and support "carbon footprint" companies to save us. Those incredibly brave souls who decry the fear of very real terrorists and what they can and will do, are happily preaching that we need to blame ourselves for a natural phenomenon and vote with panic for those who instill ecological terror in the hearts of believers.
O.K. now... Shall we fear something real? Like terrorists? Or shall we devote ourselves to the fear of something we didn't cause and can't change? I guess it depends on who we want to believe, doesn't it? Personally, what scares me is the idea that O-bomb-a, Billary, Mrs. Edwards' husband, or something equally pathetic will wind up in the Oval Office. Now that scares the daylights out of me! Imagine the disaster they could create by kissing terrorist butts and raising our taxes to pay for things that aren't even real...
