Sen. John Ensign's 6th Question
May 6th 2007 21:32
Here's number six.
Some new designer drugs were found in Carson City awhile back, apparently geared toward younger kids. Is there anything the Senate can do to stop it before it becomes an epidemic?
The rapid rise of methamphetamine use nationwide, and particularly in Nevada, is troubling. Meth is the most frequently encountered drug in our state. That is why I became a cosponsor of the Combat Meth Act, which was passed into law. This law requires certain medicines, such as cold medicines, used to make meth to be kept behind the counter and be sold by a pharmacist. It also provides funding to help train local law enforcement and prosecutors so they can step up investigations and prosecutions of meth offenders. Finally, it provides money for children endangered by parents who use meth. This is a step in the right direction, but we need to do more.
