Speaking of Rick Warren...
January 5th 2009 17:03
That seems to have become a popular passtime these days, speaking of Rick Warren, that is. In spite of having an enormous congregation and being the author of a famous book many people hadn't heard of him until he injected himself into the election process. After hosting the farcial "debate" between McCain and B.O. (B.S.), the good Rev. popped into national importance and is making the most of his celebrity status. He's doing the talk show circuit and has gained enough "momentum" that he'll be offering a prayer at the inauguration of B.O. (B.S.) later this month.
I'm wondering which of the two of them is more cynical... B.O. (B.S.) thinking he can pretend to have religious convictions (while violating every Biblical precept) in order to get votes? Or Rick Warren, believing that he can compromise everything he stands for, "deal with the devil" and somehow come out on top?
Star Parker has an interesting take on the situation...

I caught a bit of Joel Osteen this past Sunday morning. All I heard was Calvinism and Predestination.
Mr. Osteen is a fantastic speaker and a true motivator, but, personally, I cannot buy into the theory that the Almighty pulls strings and sets up the stages for everyone on the planet all the time and throughout all events.
The "Rev." Warren's book is essentially saying the same thing, that a purpose is individually disseminated to each and every individual on a personal level.
I do not quibble with people who want to accept this, since this thinking may be all that holds them together iin such a complex world. I just cannot accept predestination myself.
I hope this helps.

Perhaps I missed the meaning of your "social climbing" Rick Warren post. Sorry.
Once again, I do agree that Rick Warren is posturing right now. We both could probably write books on the subject of ministers who have used their faith for power plays. I accept that not all of them are of this
calibre.
