Snipping, Snapping and Snarling
January 29th 2008 16:46
With the caususses and primaries well underway, the antics of the presidential hopefuls are getting a little snarkier. Hillary and Obama keep taking swipes at each other (assisted by the snarkiest of all, Bill (the Zipper). Dick Morris explains this very clearly, as it was his idea to begin with. When the Zipper was running for office, Hillary acted as his lightenng rod and drew all the attention to herself. People were so busy complaining about her behavior they didn't notice that Bill was busily chasing skirts and lying to the voters. Now that the situation is reversed, it's his turn to be the lightening rod and keep everyone from noticing how little she really has to say. He plays the race card, he plays the gender card, he wags his finger in the faces of those who object to his/her performances. Everybody is watching him while she tries to skate through, unnoticed. It worked so well before, they expect it to be successful again. Let's hope people start listening to Dick Morris more than Billary.
On the Republican side, McCain and Romney seem to have plenty of differences. Neither of them has the perfect conservative record, to be sure. But each of them is going after the other for the same things they have been accused of, themselves. McCain's idea of working with both sides of the proverbial aisle is to lend his name to things like "McCain-Finegold", "McCain-Lieberman" and "McCain-Kennedy" all of which were disastrous failures that accomplished nothing but to prove that McCain is willing to lean as far left as he can while not expecting to topple over. Romney has waffled on gay marriage and abortion (during is run for Governor of Mass.)
Edwards (dem.) and Giuliani (rep.) don't seem to enter into the fray, but lag quuietly behind, perhaps waiting to pick up the pieces after the others chews themselves to bits. Huckabee is lagging as well, waiting to see what the voters will do as he struggles along.
This is getting more interesting all the time. I wonder who'll still be standing at the conventions?
