Leaving the Nest
September 7th 2008 11:13
It's Sunday again. Our last visit to church with my grand daughter, LGJ. She's had the big party and spent almost three months preparing herself for today. After church and a small family luncheon, she'll be leaving us for the US Marines. I'll be the one to take her to her destination, since her parents would get too emotional. Especially her Dad. I can keep my composure, at least until I get home afterwards...
Tomorrow, we'll all go and watch her get sworn in. One last "Goodbye," hugs and kisses and she's on her way. It would be easier for everyone if it wasn't being dragged out into a two day affair, but that's how it goes, I guess. Her leaving has been off in the future until today. I have mixed emotions... we all do.
Not second thoughts about her future, don't misunderstand me. We are very proud of her and what she's doing with her life. She'll have opportunities that would never happen in a community college or the local workforce. But after 18 years of being a little girl, she's now a woman and on her own. We sort of got used to having her around...
The "nest" is sure going to feel empty when our little eagle as flown away...
