I am highly opinionated with a firm grip on the difference between right and wrong. I pay more attention to the candidates and the issues than to precise party lines. My facts are just that... FACTS- and my opinions are MY opinions- Regardless of what the subject, you can always find a good read on my blog, I write about various issues and not everything is focused on the subject of politics. I hope you enjoy!

"Dirty Lies!" he insisted.

I have several Democrat friends who don't usually like to call themselves "liberals." This is probably because they do have a rudimentary understanding of what liberalism is all about and don't like it. Most of them are hard workers who have never been on welfare, never had an abortion, pay their bills and don't hate their bosses for hiring them. One of these friends is a well known actor and lives in New York. He seems to think being a Democrat was his only choice.

My other friend (one of many, but the one I'm talking about today) is a retired teacher. Until the election, he defended B.O. like a good Democrat, without knowing anything about him. The reality is beginning to sink in just a little, I think. A little too late, of course...

He sent me a forward a couple of days ago that sounded like a conservative Republican should have written it. I replied that it seemed strange, coming from him, since he was on the opposite side of everything in the forward. He got really mad at me! Said B.O. was not a liberal, didn't approve of all those things, and was going to be the greatest president in history. He asked where I got all those "dirty lies" about him.

"You haven't listened to his speeches and interviews, have you?" I asked in return.

"I saw him on TV all the time. He had commercials on every day and the news showed parts of all his speeches!" he exclaimed proudly.

"Well, I got all my information of either listening to him speak or reading transcripts of his speeches." Then I went on to explain the real position B.O. has on things. The ultra-liberal positions. My friend was stunned. His ebullience is fading away quickly. Apparently he did a little investigation (that he should have done BEFORE) the election. Not yet willing to admit what a mistake he made, however, he has toned it down to "We'll see what kind of a president his is in a year or two."

Let's hope that after a year or two we still have a country left to worry about.

Given some of the claims you made in "Well, it's over..." a few posts ago, I can kind of understand your friend's skepticism.

"Education will be quite different, considering that he doesn't like home schools and will try to force all parents to subject their children to the government indoctrination centers"

He's not a fan of home schooling, but when did he say he would eliminate it?

"Our taxes wil go up and up (as he said they would, to "share the wealth")."

He said some taxes would go up, but who do you include in "our"?

"He'll make a token effort in Afghanistan (about like O.J. looking for his wife's killer) before pulling us out."

I'm very curious about when he said that. Do you think his stated intentions in Afghanistan won't be enough? Of course, for it to be a token, Obama would have to know they're not enough.

"There will be no drilling anywhere within our borders," (italics mine)

What?

"Our military will be cut down dramatically (by a large percenatge according to Barney Frank)"

I'd bet Barney Frank wants to, but when did Obama ever say it? Was Barney Frack acting as spokesman for Obama at the time? (talking about the total military budget, not just specific programs)

My information comes from B.O.'s speeches and the words of those representing him as well as the Democrat platform, noaIzumi. Barney Frank made the statement as a spokesman... Democrats don't like homeschools and have tried to stop them before. With enough Republicans, it was countered. Now there won't be enough to do it... His position on taxes is quite clear in spite of his verbal gyrations. He voted to raise taxes 94 times (one of the few things he bothered to vote for at all in his sterling Senate "career". His first "promise" was to only raise taxes on those making more than $250,000 a year, remember? Then Biden dropped it (as VP, Biden must have been speaking for him) then Richardson dropped it further (as incoming Commerce Sec. he should know, right?) It wasn't that long ago that he voted for a tax increase of "wealthy" people making less than $45,000 a year... He was vehemently against any and all drilling before waffling a little and basically saying "maybe." To please his liberal base, he'll have to carp on "green" energy while leaving us without what we already need to conduct the business of daily life. He seemed to agree with Algore that drilling will destroy the Earth and take too long, anyway. They are indulging in the fantasy that the whole country can magically come up with large scale "green" fuel sources with the wave of his wand... Considering his clear and obvious contempt for the military, his softness of terrorism, big planned cutbacks in defense spending, even he must know that he has no real intention of looking for bin Laden, except maybe to chat.

His foreign policy is infantile, at best, and Hillary is so "tough" she cringed away when another candidate for NY Senate dared to approach her during a debate to hand her a paper. She says she's the "smartest woman in the world", and then complains that Pres. Bush (whon she considers stuppid) fooled her into voting for the war. She has been known to whine about American men being difficult to deal with (like her hubby, maybe and Republicans) so B.O. naturally has named her to tackle foreign affairs as Sec. of State.

Honestly, noaIzumi, you must see a pattern of behavior here, right?

Sorry for the delay; had to do some internet research (kind of exciting really; I feel like an affiliate of Media Matters!)

Biden's comment on taxes:

Really Long Link

According to the New York Post, what he said that people making $150K a year would get a tax break. He didn't say anything about raising taxes.

Bill Richardson's comment on taxes:

Really Long Link

I'd suggest listening to the whole interview, including the part where he says that no one who's making under $250K a year will see a tax increase.

Barak Obama voted to increase taxes on people making $42K a year:

Really Long Link

This one is true, but only for single people with the fewest number of exemptions, and the increase was (or would have been) just $15 a year. And it sounds like it was part of a larger bill. So, did Obama vote for the tax increase in isolation, or did he vote for the whole bill, which may have had things he thought would offset the tax increase?

Obama voted to raise taxes 94 times.

Really Long Link

Not exactly true, and by "not exactly true," I mean "barely has a grain of truth"

Barney Frank's comment:

Really Long Link

Frank appears to be speaking just for himself, maybe a few other Democrats. But not Obama, as shown by his response, in this article:

Really Long Link

Obama on drilling and energy production:

Really Long Link

He promotes responsible domestic production of oil and natural gas (in areas we're already drilling), advocates clean coal (for which he's been slammed by environmentalists), and wants to prioritize construction of the Alaska natural gas pipeline.

Obama on homeschooling:

Couldn't find much on this, but in p. 344 of The Audacity of Hope, he writes, "none of these policies need discourage families from deciding to keep a parent at home…For some families, that may mean doing without certain material comforts. For others it may mean home schooling….Whatever the case may be, such decisions should be honored."

Contempt for the military and softness on terrorism:

I don't suppose you could provide anything more specific, could you? That's kind of vague. Being against the war in Iraq doesn't make him soft of terrorism, it means he disagrees with the strategy. it's like saying that certain admirals in World War II were in favor of surrendering to the Japanese in 1944 because they favored invading Taiwan rather than the Phillippines.

Well, noaIzumi, you have been busy, haven't you? O.K. here goes...
On the subject of taxes, he started out saying that he's not going to renew the Bush tax cuts (which will, in effect be an increase from what is being paid now). The varying figures ($250,000, $150,000 and later $120,000) were all the bottom line, under which he said he wouldn't raise taxes. That means an income of over those amounts would see an increase. If those other people were not speaking for him (cabinet members now) why did he not make a point of either correcting their errors himself or having them correct them?

Energy. For being in favor of clean coal energy, it seems a little odd that he said quite clearly the clean coal companies would go broke under his plan. And he has gone from being adamantly against new exploration and drilling to marginally in favor of it. His excuse was that the oil companies had plenty of land to drill on but weren't doing so. It apparently never occured to him that it's a waste to drill where the is no oil, even if you have the land leased.

Homeschooling was mentioned once by him in a book. Fine. When homeschools are under attack for being mostly religious in nature, it is the Democrats ONLY who try to make it illegal. California just had quite a battle over it and their "Governator" came to the rescue. Since it is a Democrat thing and B.O. doesn't "cross the aisle", there is no reason to expect that he'll do anything but what his party demands when it comes to education.

His contempt for the military was made abundantly clear on several occasions. Going to the gym instead of visiting wounded American troops when he was in Germany. All because he couldn't take a camera crew with him for the visit. John McCain had to shame him into even being willing to go to Iraq and see things for himself. And then he was very selective with whom he spoke (very high ranking officers and not enlisted personnel). Then he managed to turn a trip to visit the troops into a world event for himself. He refused to wear the flag pin that everybody else (and their dog!) was wearing and doesn't salute the flag unless he knows someone is watching.

Softness on terrorism? Even knowing what would happen if we pulled out of Iraq too soon, he started his campaign with a promise to remove the troops immediately upon taking office. He was against the surge, said it wouldn't work, and took a really long time before grudgingly admitting that mauybe it had. He hasn't been very specific about how he plans to capture bin Laden or what his strategy would be in Afghanistan, but since the other Democrats are in favor of surrender, he won't stray from their chosen position.

In short, noaIzumi, he's a liberal hack who will follow party lines and not lead a bit. He's already proven that. His choice of cabinet members makes it even clearer that he wants to return to the "glory days" of the Clinton regime. And if you don't think the Zipper was soft on terrorism, you need to do a little more research.

Hey S.L. I think the luster will come off B.O. long before two years are up, and the ones that gleefully elected him will soon turn sour. It is amazing how some people will continue to support him until the bitter end and I mean that literally.

Good point, Lester! I expect him to lose his "mistique" at six months if not sooner. When all those people he fooled start waking up, they'll be loaded with regrets. The rest of us can just sit back and watch the results.

Another 4 to 8 years of the Clintonista's and BO, I'm getting ill with anticipation.

But, sadly, conservatives should take heed of the very successful campaign they waged and pray that during the next elections the proponents of the fairness doctrine will mandate a down turned economy, continuing warfare, and a pro-conservative media.

I don't think his propensity to utilize interns as his personal harem or his temper tantrums is going to endear him to BO, and Hillary may not want him hanging on her shirt tail now that she is getting a real opportunity to show her stuff.

Sad, but justice is served in a sense. But he is definitely a charismatic jerk, but a jerk none the less.

Ah, Standish, Maine. Must be an interesting town... Let's face it, people bet on all sorts of things, Nevar. The exact time the shuttle will land, a baby's birth, the outcome of games and elections. It's nothing unusual. At least they're only betting on an "if" instead of making movies about an assassination like some people did about Pres. Bush. It'll take a heap of deodorant to get B.O. out of the White House, Nevar. Or maybe just four years of the stench will do it. The Muslim aroma, on the other hand seems to be permeating the whole country. Did you read my link today to Planck's Constant? Love the pencil sharpeners!

When I hear someone say something, Nevar, I tend to remember it (especially if it's important to the country). When I hear the same person say something contradicting the previous statement, it bothers me. When it happens repeatedly, I come to the conclusion that the speaker is either a liar or an idiot. What more "facts" would you want me to have? B.O. changing his story again? That would certainly clear things up. The facts you have found were obviously from his speeches and interviews that contradicted what I heard him say. Which time was he lying?
