The Tragedy of Being Anonymous
March 23rd 2008 02:35
Imagine, if you can, folks, what it must be like to be so ashamed of yourself and your family that you can't even use your own name. Wouldn't it be miserable to wake up every day, knowing that the things you say and do are so shameful that you fear to use your own name as you do them? Perhaps you would fancy yourself some sort of verbal sniper. Attacking your hapless victim from behind a shield of "Anonymity" and scoring hit after hit. It might be nice to pretend that your words have meaning, but you'd know they were just ugly, empty phrases dealt out by a pathetic loser who is ashamed of everything he/she does. What a misery it must be to wake up every morning and have to carry the burden of such shame and guilt. Not to mention the constant terror that someone you know might learn your disgusting secret.
I'm asking you, folks, to say a little prayer for the "Anonymous" blog stalkers that they can get rid of their shame and stand up for whatever they believe in. They are carrying a terrible burden of guilt and shame. Please join me in feeling sorry for them.

example: i noticed Ruby Soho in the comments of a facebook groups blog post anonymously but still sign off with her name so she could be addressed and responded to Ruby Soho comments "You're In Australia Speak English"
in your My Orble you can modify the permissions on your blog to only allow registered Orble users and not anonymous if you are getting alot of anonymous abuse
maybe Orble might need a checkbox to assign karma to encourage people to sign in if they have something to say but dont want to endorse the original post?
it is always the anonymous comments that seem to be the nastiest!

As for you tlcorbin, Raven or whatever you call yourself, contributing to someones success is a nice thing to do. Contributing to someones failure, on the other hand, isn't possible in the sense that you seem to mean. Cowards like Anonymous only shame themselves (as I'm sure you are aware). If you don't like what someone else blogs about, don't read their stuff. Sounds pretty simple to me. For example, I wouldn't even consider reading your trash. Not that people don't tell me about it. In fact if you want to know whom I do and don't respect, check their blogs. If I comment, I use my own name. If I don't comment, it's because they aren't worth my time and effort. See how easy that is Raven?

How can you say something like:
and yet claim to be a Christian? A follower of Christ?
Can you imagine Christ being crucified and saying, "You're all a bunch of pathetic losers." ?
Didn't he forgive everyone? That's my understanding of Christ and Christianity anyway.
I'll still read your posts. You certainly have a mind filled with intelligence. But it's my understanding that intelligence was given to us to seek wisdom, not intelligence in idipsum or semetipsum (for it's own sake).
Maybe i see life too simply. Who knows? Only God and he's not telling us? As my dear old mum used to say frequently.
Henrietta.

I'm sure the Lord didn't call anyone a "pathetic loser" but He did show pity to those less fortunate. I should have been nicer, but I'm just a simple Christian who is doing my best to speak out against wrongs. They never seem to tire of going after me, do they. Thank you for stopping by and have a very Happy Easter!

I too have enjoyed some your posts from time to time, as you know, not always but I have to agree that having hecklers is annoying in the extreme... although even more so when they are anonymous... I was bought up not to regret anything I say or do ... and therefore learnt to be very careful to think before I speak least I end up saying something I will regret ... with this comes responsibility for oneself.
I think Christ taught that above everything, even love itself.
Therefore, I have to join you in feeling sorry for those who stalk the halls of respectable virtual communities as Anony-mouses, ashamed of "what exactly/" (who knows) ... not at peace to be able to make their comments in the broadness of a free speaking day ...
I hear Morgan though, in that newbies and outer-worlders can only use anonymous until they learn the ropes sometimes, I was no different, but that is no excuse because we have all be locked out on occassion and can still write our names after our comments, even if they are in headed Anonymous. I have a couple non-orble readers who leave their names at the end of their comments ...
I have to give my last harsh critic and heckler, credit for that too .. he at least left his name and offered to PM me. I can respect that kind of passion in someone's convictions as we are again talking Christ, aren't we?
You walk a controversial line my dear, commendable, but certainly one that spurns anguish in some who do not grasp all the concepts fully... and let's face it, not many of us can grasp them all... nor have the time to explain them when we do... have you ever thought about putting a quote from the bible at the beginning of your more controversial pieces, in order to help those who cannot understand, to see where you are coming from?
Happy Easter to you, I hope it has been peaceful.
Lilla ...

Then, suggest to your friends to sign up for Orble to comment on your page.
Unfortunately, anonymous comments are part of the landscape on the internet, something we all must deal with.

Hello Cibbuano! Thank you for stopping by. I have several friends who (for reasons of their own) aren't ready, willing or able to sign up. I keep hoping they will... But thanks for the suggestion. Bashers and hecklers are just something to deal with, true. Not fun by any stretch!

I thought that part of a blogging community was to invite anyone to participate, not to exclude those that don't "belong". This Orble community is the only one I've been to that seems to really focus on exclusivity, which may in some ways contribute to my hesitancy to start a blog of my own here.
By the way, just because someone doesn't agree with you, doesn't mean they are "attacking" you.
I am not a coward, I resent that statement, and I will make a mental note of the fact that your blog is not to be criticized, as you don't intend for it to be an open discussion, but rather that you view those who oppose your viewpoint as bashers and hecklers, and that we are simply something to be "dealt with" and not taken seriously.

Like I said before, if any sort of disagreement is seen as an attack, then I will make note of it.
I have reviewed all of the posts that I left you, and I really don't think that any of them have been mean. I just can't see them as attacks. I see some of them as strongly critical or opinionated, but hey. I guess I see nothing wrong with it.
I believe in an America where citizens value dissent above all else. Where disagreements don't always have to lead to nastiness. Dissent with the government and dissent with each other. '
