I am highly opinionated with a firm grip on the difference between right and wrong. I pay more attention to the candidates and the issues than to precise party lines. My facts are just that... FACTS- and my opinions are MY opinions- Regardless of what the subject, you can always find a good read on my blog, I write about various issues and not everything is focused on the subject of politics. The UN and it's Version of "Crisis Management"

January 7th 2009 16:45
When I was a kid, my Pappy had a favorite joke. "How can we be sure there's no life on the Moon? Because no one from the Moon has asked for money or said they hate us." That was a very long time ago, and things haven't changed. In the two following links, you can see that it is still true today.

The UN is the leader of America bashers as they happily collect millions from us every year. Some even believe that the current hatred for Israel is linked to hatred of America as much or maybe even more than anti-Semitism.

The focus of international (and UN) attention is on the situation in Gaza and how bad the Israeli's are for defending themselves. Some even say that the last eight years (the Bush Administration) have made things worse. Guess they haven't heard of the "Roadmap to Peace." Israel was allowing goods to enter Gaza until the supply trucks started being attacked. The border was open until terrorists (Hamas) started entering and attacking civilians. Israel put up with thousands of rocket attacks while the "international community" (UN) sat by and did nothing. Even B.O. (B.S.) said in a speech in Israel that if his children were threatened he would take measures to stop it. (It could be that it just adds further proof that he says words without having a clue that they mean...)

While everyone is focusing on Israel invading Gaza and attacking Hamas, they have ignored much more terrible international crimes. Sri Lanka, the Congo, Darfur and other places where crimes against humanity have occured on a huge scale, have been ignored in favor of Israel defending itself. If the UN and the rest of the "conscientious" crowd were more concerned about human lives and human rights, they might show it just a little! Instead, they weep and wail for terrorists and the carnage they cause to themselves and innocents.

Allow me to paraphrase the noted religious icon, Rev. Jeremiah Wright. "God *&^% Hamas and the UN" not he USA.

Good evening,

Thanks for your comments. As I am sure you are aware, Israel is the occupying power. It controls the land, the sea and the air. Just because it withdrew, does not mean that it lost its' moral responsbility to protect the people under occupation. Ifthey say they're humane, then how come they agreed to open a humainitarian corridor and provide a 3-hr window?

You say the international community did nothing. What about the Oslo Accords that Norway helped to put together? What about what Bill Clinton Tried in 2000? What about even Annapolis? What the Israelis have done with this to kill this off under the justification of the war on Terror. As I am sure you recall, Yitzak Rabin paid for the Oslo Accords with his life. I wonder if he had lived, we would not be here simply because he would have had the crediblitly and moral authority to get it done.

You talked about Darfur and the Congo. The Congo, actually, can be considered a success story because the UN staged elections and has a force of 18,000 troops there. There are challenges for sure...and I have written about the useless Government in Kinshasa who is yet to get its act together and the rebellion going on in the Eastern part of the Country. As for Darfur, the world was asleep at the wheel. There is a thug by the name of Al Bashir who has done pretty much what he wants and is the President-King of Sudan. As I am sure you're also aware, the international court of justice is planning to indict him for War Crimes. Yet, the United states is not a signatory to the court. And Sudan has used that argument as an "in your face" rebuttal.

Ehud Barak, the architect of this campaign, himself once said that "..If I were a palestinian, I would join a terror organization". This is a profound statement in my view because it shows at least an understanding on the part of Israeli leaders that something has to be done differently. They built a fence and stopped the Suicide bombers. But, the problem is that Gaza is the world's biggest prison. People have to have hope. People have to have a belief in the future. Right now, Gaza has no future.

There is no question in my mind that Hamas is also responsible because it made a strategic blunder in my view thinking that it can contend with the Israeli mlitary machine. Israel is losing the propaganda war and losing it big time. In the midst of it all, are the ordinary 1.5 million Gazans who are in harms way and have no where to go.

As I conclude, I trust that you agree that the challenges are quite complicated indeed. But, there has to be a will to stop this senseless killing. Even one death (whether it is Palestinian or Israeli) is one death too many. Violence has to stop...the excuse for the tunnels must be taken away....the two state solution (in the right way) must be implemented so that bigger issues (like water, education, healthcare) be addressed. The senseless killing only adds fuel to the fire. That should be our goal..not attacking the very institutions who are trying to at least help the unfortunate.

I welcome your thoughts and look forward to my periodic visits to continue the dialogue at hand.

Good Morning, Mike. I just did another post concerning this which contains a factual history lesson, I hope you read it carefully.

Concerning the casualty figures in Gaza... If Hamas would disband and stop attacking Israel and quit using innocent civilians as shields, there would be no casualities at all.

The whole point of every situation in the Middle East seems to be that Israel has a country and the Arabs want to destroy it.

Have you seen pictures of the area? Especially photos taken with a very wide angle, from the air? The contrast is so clear and obvious you'd have to close your eyes to miss it! You can spot Israeli land very easily. It's green and growing. You can spot the land Hamas wants, too. It's dry and dead.

When the Jews regained their homeland, it was a nasty looking chunk of desert. Now it is garden spot with a level of prosperity previously unknown in the area. Agriculture, education, literature, science... Israel values them all and draws no social, religious or ethnic lines when it comes to it's citizens sharing in those things. By it's actions, it is easy to see what the ultimate goals of Israel are. Peace, freedom and the prosperity of their country and their people.

On the other side of the coin, it isn't hard at all to understand (by their actions) what the surrounding Arabs want and what their goals are. They want Israel gone and all the Jews dead. Even if they didn't scream it at the top of their lungs constantly, it wouldn't be much of a secret.

Think about it, Mike. Israel gave Gaza to the "Palestinians." At first there was no fence. Trade, commerce and travel were flowing freely. If Hamas had not taken over and had allowed a legitimate authority (elected) of Palestinians to run the place, there would be no war now. But the Palestinians allowed Hamas to take over and start attacking Israel over the open border. What would you have done, Mike? Sit back while your countrymen were killed in suicide bombings? Or calmly live under the threat of constant missile explosions all around you? Wait forever for the UN to get off it's vaunted rear end and "come to the rescue?"

Israel was a lot more patient than I would have been. If one of my neighbors was tossing grenades into my yard to the tune of 10,000 or so in a very few years... if they killed some of my children and wounded others... if they blew up my outbuildings... all because they don't like me and want me dead... if the police (UN) refused to do anything to help me... you better believe, I'd get a whole box of dynamite and drop it on their heads. I would feel bad if their children were hurt or killed, but the damage would be entirely on them at that point.

It's easy to feel sorry for all the victims during a war. But it's important to figure out where the blame belongs and place it accordingly. The "Palestinians" had their chance to prosper with the help of Israel. They chose, instead to allow a terrorist group, Hamas, to speak for them and bring this about. Now Israel is getting the messy end of the stick for defending itself again.

If the Palestinian people don't like being bombed, maybe they should rise up against Hamas and kick their butts out of their country! If one keeps company with skunks, one shouldn't be surprised that the stink rubs off.

Wow S.L. long comments I don't have that much to say just Israel is right, Hamas are terrorist, and the UN are useless, and should leave the US.
