Another Battle in the War on Christmas
November 15th 2007 13:41
Australia has a battle going on over the Santa semantics. "Ho! Ho! Ho!" is being frowned on these days. The mall Santas have been told that they should say "Ha! Ha! Ha!" instead. Some genius decided that the original term might be considered "offensive" to some people! No joke, folks. So, what's next? P.E.T.A. saying that the reindeer are being abused by having to pull a sleigh? Or that Santa can't wear fur lined clothes because it might have come from an animal (or represents animals even if the fur is fake)? Maybe there is someone, somewhere who would find the color red offensive and he'll be forced to wear plain gray, instead? After all the Bloods and Crips use red and black as their colors! Oh my, how about the beard and long hair? Surely someone will object to that! And there is already a campaign for Santa's to be thinner (the health nuts contribution to insanity). Won't it be wonderful if they all get their way? Imagine Christmas with a skinny Santa, dressed in grey, clean shaven and short haired, with no reindeer, saying "Ha! Ha! Ha!" to everyone. Some picture, huh? He could set beside a "holiday tree" all alone.
Christmas is the holiday (holy day) set aside to celebrate the birth of Jesus Christ (Christ-mas, get it?) No one knows exactly when He was born, so the day was set long ago and has been honored ever since. It's a federal holiday, folks. It has become a time of joy and giving around the world. A day set aside to pray or gather friends and families for shared festivities and laughter. Food banks prosper during the Christmas season and people tend to be more generous towards charities and one another. Yes, it's been comercialized. But the giving and kindness Christmas brings out in people is a very good thing. I don't know about you folks, but when I select gifts for friends and family, I spend a lot of time choosing just the right things. It's not the price tag that matters, it's the giving.
If the pathetic PC crowd gets their way, we'll all become like Ebenezer Scrooge and mutter "Bah! Humbug!" That'll sure be an inspiring and uplifting greeting, won't it?

And just FYI, some of us have been talking about the war on Christmas and Christians for a long time. But I cover that in the book, too.
