I am highly opinionated with a firm grip on the difference between right and wrong. I pay more attention to the candidates and the issues than to precise party lines. My facts are just that... FACTS- and my opinions are MY opinions- Regardless of what the subject, you can always find a good read on my blog, I write about various issues and not everything is focused on the subject of politics. I hope you enjoy!

Target on My Butt

August 2nd 2007 18:34
You're not gonna believe this one, folks! Remember how my former best friend stuck me with his Cadillac? Remember my telling you about Columbia House and how they stuck it to me? Those were minor, compared to what happened this morning!

To give you a little background... I moved a few months ago and dutifully changed all my bills to the new address. I transferred phone service from the old place to the new one. We had AT&T for all our phone service there, so I thought (silly me!!) that calling AT&T to arrange for the transfer was all I had to do. We have Verizon for local and AT&T for long distance where I live now. The post office screwed up and sent my bills to the wrong address so I didn't get them. But I wasn't very worried when the phone bills didn't come, since I have "Unlimited Calling" it couldn't be very high, right? WRONG!!!! AT&T that I called was the "new" AT&T while my service in the new place is with the "old" AT&T. Apparently the two don't communicate at all. The service was connected on their "special" rate instead of the "Unlimited" rate I signed up for. Guess what their "special rate" costs? .38 cents a minute! By the time I found out what was happening, the bill was nearly a thousand dollars! Needless to say, I disputed this outrageous bill and am still fighting with AT&T over it. My Verizon bill is paid in full since they charged the agreed upon amount. I had to pay them on the phone since I have yet to receive a bill from them, either. AT&T finally agreed to drop several hundred dollars off the bill, but no two supervisors could agree on how much they were willing to drop. Some said I still owed $200. some said $300. and one said it would be over $400. for their mistake. Now tell me folks, would you come up with a magic number and send a payment just for schitts and giggles? I wouldn't. The post office problem should be fixed (since I went back in AGAIN and raised hell) but they have yet to send me a bill so I can pay it.

Yesterday I had a long talk with Verizon and explained the situation to them. I was assured by a supervisor that the two bills weren't connected and that I'd still have my local service even if AT&T cut off my long distance. My internet depends on the local phone service, by the way.

So I got up early this morning and couldn't get online. A few hours later I tried to make a call and discovered that my local service had been disconnected! Using my neighbors phone I called Verizon and raised merry hell with them. It took awhile, but the problem is solved, for my local service, at least. Verizon had no right or reason to disconnect me and apologized profusely! They now have me reconnected again.

Word of warning. If you use AT&T, find out if it's the "old" or the "new" before you transfer your service. Get everything in writing, don't rely on their "recorded" bull dookey. If your mail doesn't arrive right on time, raise hell with the post office until they get your mail to you. Don't let it slide for even a minute! And don't back down to their bullying and pay whatever AT&T wants. I'll never use them again, once my lawsuit is done.

I'm afraid to think about what else could go wrong!! lol A friend of mine said "these are just experiences to store away for later use." Not sure exactly what she meant. But I'd much rather "experience" winning a million dollars! lol

They'll make for humourous stories for your grandkids, but they sure are a bitch when they happen. Just don't get too paranoid, lol. Oh, by the way, I've already got dibs on that million.

That will teach you to believe in the free market, free enterprise, the magic of the marketplace and all that baloney! We need infrastructure.

From the sound of it, Howard, your idea of "infrastructure" is communism. I hear Cuba, China and N. Korea have plenty of "infrastructure." Maybe you should talk to some of their people who are trying desperately to get away from it and come here to our less than perfect, free enterprise system...?

The American system is not "communism". The gov't financing the railroads under Abe Lincoln was pretty good too. Then there was FDR and the Hoover Dam, though many called in "Damn Hoover"! The Treas. Dept can issue directed CREDIT to necessary projects. They can either be done by the gov't, or contracted out to private people. What's wrong with that? Now, it is that, or the end of civilization my friend. We're on the eve of destruction. Heard about that bridge in Minneapolis?

The Minneapolis bridge collapse is reminiscent of the levy failures in New Orleans. The lack of "infrastructure" is happening not because the gov't doesn't cough up the cash or because we aren't taxed enough, Howard. The problem is the addiction to "prok" that plagues so many politicians. Taxes and gov't subsidies that are intended for "highway maintenance" and other "infrastructure issues" are too often spent on pork like "hiking trails", "bike trails" and "museums." Raising taxes and getting more federal money won't solve the problem. The only way to repair aging roads, levies and bridges is to spend the money already appropriated for them and remove the "pork." Blaming anyone from the President on down for levy failures and bridge collapses is ridiculous. The blame should rest securely on the shoulders of the state and local authorities who wasted the money that was intended for repairs to prevent such failures from happening in the first place. Where does the "buck" stop?
