I am highly opinionated with a firm grip on the difference between right and wrong. I pay more attention to the candidates and the issues than to precise party lines. My facts are just that... FACTS- and my opinions are MY opinions- Regardless of what the subject, you can always find a good read on my blog, I write about various issues and not everything is focused on the subject of politics. I hope you enjoy!

Riots in Iran

June 13th 2009 16:19
It looks like Ahmadinejad's victory isn't being too well received by the Iranians who voted yesterday. Musavi's and his other opponents' supporters are rioting in the streets. All the newspapers were removed from the stores and cell phone service was shut down. It makes you wonder what's really going on doesn't it, folks?

I wasn't very interested in the Iranian elections, because the mullahs and ayatollahs actually run the country. Their President is little more than a figurehead, anyway. And Musavi was the one who got the nuclear program started there to begin with, so why should we trust him?

One of the "religious" leaders spoke to the people and told them that it was Allah's will and they should stop fighting. We'll see if it works...

Musavi was told that he had won and to write his acceptance speech. A few hours later, he was told to forget it and Ahmadinejad had won. Sounds just a teensy bit odd, don't you think?

I'm beginning to wonder if B.O. (B.S.) didn't send a little contingent of ACORN volunteers to help his buddy out.

I don't know who the winner really was S.L., but I know the real losers are the United States, and Israel.

It wouldn't have mattered who won, Lester. We're the losers anyway.

S.L,

You need to make a decision whether to be on the side of Democracy or not. I always thought you were on the side of Democracy. Yet your half-baked dismissal of the protests in Iran that are continuing are mind-boggling. Did you bother to even check out what Mousavi has said?

As you note yourself, you did not care aboutthe elections (as you admit), you have no clue about what is going on. Just because you were not interested in the elections does not necessarily m ean that you should be dismissive. The President has wide leeway in areas of domesitic policy, so elections do matter

One final point: As fo the nuclear program, you seem to have no clue about history. The nuclear program was actually started by the Shah (who was supproted by the United states).

I do care about Democracy, Mike. But right now it's as likely in Iran as it is in North Korea. Wringing my hands and sobbing isn't going to make the mullahs and ayatollahs any nicer. I would be delighted to see a news flash that the entire government of Iran was just over thrown by angry Iranians. I would be even more delighted if they contacted the UK, Canada or Australia for lessons in Democracy. (I wouldn't want them contacting us because B.O. (B.S.) would send the wrong people to assist them.)

Thank you so much for the history lesson, Mike. But it was quite unnecessary. I remember the Shah (Reza Palavi was his actual name). Jimmy Carter threw him under the bus and Ayatollah Khoumeini took over (maybe Carter's anti-Semitism had something to do with that?) Our relationship with Iran has gone steadily downhill ever since.

And no, I didn't hear the speeches or the debates between Ahmadinejad and Mousavi. If Mousavi had been more rabidly anti-American and been louder about wiping Israel off the map, the ayatollahs might have allowed him to win. It was a done deal to begin with. The would only let the worst man win.
