May 14th 2008 15:30

After reviewing acknowledgments of God from all 50 state constitutions, one is faced with the prospect that maybe, the ACLU and the out-of-control federal courts are wrong! If you found this to be 'Food for thought' copy and send to as many as you think will be enlightened, as I hope you were.

(Please note that at no time is anyone told that they MUST worship God.)

SL, you appear to be the recipient of one hell of a number of e-mail messengers from the Right; that’s OK, I get them from the ACLU and MoveOn.org. But you really have to take all of these with a substantial amount of salt.

As to the various state constitutions, if the residents want to cite God or Almighty God as the source or basis of their freedoms, fine with me. I am a bit put out by Virginia’s demand that all “. . . practice Christian Forbearance,” but I will try and forbear!

But your slam at Obama makes no sense. You say that “Allah” is not mentioned in the Preambles; I would suggest that He is, indeed. I thought the Judeo-Christian-Islam faiths all presupposed a monotheistic Deity. Traditional Jews would not pronounce His name and Moslems consider that Allah is the same as the God of Abraham. Jesus was, after all, Jewish and believed in the God of Abraham.

By the way, Buddha is also not mentioned in the introduction to the constitutions of the several states; would you infer, therefore, that followers of that faith have fewer liberties or rights?
Finally, are those of the Right still beating the dead horse of Obama’s religion? He’s Christian.

There are valid non-inflammatory arguments supporting John McCain and opposing Senator Obama. Why not use them?

My mention of Obama was concerned with the fact that he doesn't know how many states are in the USA and thinks it's 57 (like the 57 Islamic states). If that doesn't concern you, maybe it should, Jim.

I get emails from Bill Richardson, too, and he's hardly a right winger. If you'll look into my previous posts, you'll see that I thought he was a much better Democrat choice tha either Hillary or Obama.

As the message states, there was no mention of a particular religion and no demand that anyone follow any particular belief. It was simply the idea that freedom (and the desire for freedom) comes from God.

About the 57 states. Has it occurred to you that he may have visited some states more than once?

Freedom comes from God? Funny, I never felt free until I freed myself from God.

Here's my favourite Thomas Jefferson quote, just for good measure:

"The Bible is not my book. Nor Christianity my religion".

Ruby, you live in Australia, don't you? Do you know how many states (or provinces) Australia has? If you visited one more than once, would you count it as two? Most American kids know that we have 50 states by the 2nd grade. There are 57 Islamic states, Ruby. If he can't keep the two straight, he obviously knows nothing of the country he wants to "lead."

As for your feeling free by removing God from your life, well, I pity you. Thomas Jefferson and the other Founding Fathers had more good to say of God than bad. They did, after all, mention Him in the Constitution, the Declaration of Independence, and on our currency.

I'm pretty sure Obama knows how many states there are in the US SL. If you want to cast dispersions on his ability to lead, I'm afraid you guys will have to come up with something better than that. He never said there were 57 states. He said he had been to 57 states. So, yes, if he visited some more than once, it means he visited 57 states in his trip.

Don't get me started on the Founding Fathers and God. Trust me, they were not that impressed by him. But how do you equate God with freedom, when religion is the opposite of freedom, since it is very rigid in what it requires of its believers?

And there's no need to pity me. Unlike the billions of people across the world whose minds and hearts are enslaved by their religion, I actually know who I am. My thoughts and beliefs are my own. I don't need a priest or an imam or a rabbi or a book to tell me what to think and what to believe. It's very liberating SL. You should give it a go...just try on the atheist shoes for a while...hey you never know...

It must be very "freeing", Ruby, to be able to behave as badly as you like with the illusion of no consequenses.

Anyone so stupid to not know how many states we have doesn't deserve to be president. I have visited half of the states, myself, and some of them several times. I still am aware that there are only FIFTY states. You can try all day to make excuses for him, but it won't wash. He's unfit for the Office.

Because religious people always behave so well huh?

One more time- saying "I've been in 57 states on this trip" is NOT the same thing as saying "there are 57 states".

Really, if this is the worst thing you have on Obama, they may as well swear him in now.

Obama unfit for office? We'll see come November.

That wasn't exactly what he said, Ruby. He said he'd been to ALL 57 states. There's plenty more "on him", this is just the most recent. He isn't qualified to be President of the Neighborhood Watch!

Actually, no he didn't. I distinctly remember him saying that he didn't go to Alaska and I think Hawaii? There were two states he didn't visit at all.

Shouldn't you be worried about his policies anyway?

After saying he'd been to 57 states with only one to go, he admitted that his handlers had advised him not to go to Alaska or Hawaii because they
'weren't worth it." So he thinks we have how many states?

His "policies" are so foolish they aren't "worth it."

Athiest, eh, Ruby?
The definition of freedom I learned in Philosophy (of course it was "Christian Philosophy" but wisdom is wisdom - which comes from God because He is the source of all that is) is :

"The ability to do that which I must to become what I was created to be."

(Funny, I learned that definition for a test forty-six years ago. It stuck!)

The ABILITY: I am not hindered.(by laws, others willing, society...)

To DO: Requiring action from myself.

THAT WHICH I MUST: Indicates a responsibility to Someone or something outside myself that imposes the action I must be able to perform for the purpose.

To BECOME: This indicates that I am not now all that I am meant to be. That requires a bit of humility, searching and ,yes, hard labor(of the interior kind).

What I was CREATED TO BE: This means that at one time I was not and somehow the Big Bang making the millions of cells and nerves, muscles and ligaments that form the complex systems of my body fell into place by the One who said "Bang" and controls the exact placement of each of the above so that I can actually THINK, KNOW, SEE, WILL, DESIRE, DIGEST,PEE, HEAR, MOVE, all those wonderful things that would/could not have happened except for a LOVING DADDY GOD (by whichever name you may know Hm or deny Hm) who thought such a LOVING thought of me , a thought that DELIGHTED Him so much, that He couldn't help creating me so that I could be with Him in His joy FOREVER!

Since I have come into this world my purpose is to BELONG TO GOD to BE HIS OWN BELOVED, to become LIKE HIM, FOREVER. I was created OUT OF HIS ESSENCE, and am therefore meant to return. That keeps the universe integral. I was created GOOD. GOOD is that of which I am meant to become more.

Sensuality, gratification, fame, control - ALL is to pass away. Who I am in God is eternal.

How could you want to be freed from THAT?
What will eternity be WITHOUT IT?
May your Daddy God, by whatever name you know Him or deny Him, be EMMANUEL for you. GOD WITH US.

Sorry Harmony, you lost me at "Christian Philosophy".

May 15th 2008 15:54
You seem to get "lost" quite often, Ruby. Could it be because you have no direction? In the immortal words of Kris Kristofferson, "Freedom's just another word for nothing left to lose..." That would be the freedom of despair, Ruby. You have my pity, whether or not you want it.

Thank you, Harmony for explaining it so well. I'm glad you stopped by!

I'm sorry I "lost you" to a foreign concept, however I notice a "thought zone" under your little thinker. Don't be afraid of that zone, it goes many places and restles with our well cherished ideas....no telling where it could lead. Maybe it's scary. Oh, well, take the plunge. The alternatives could be worse.
